Great addition to our deck!
I am beyond impressed with this product - from the design, to the assembly process, to the customer service! Here are the key points: - It looks great! It's lightweight, but sturdy, with a wonderful finish on the aluminum and great quality canvas on the shade. Also, I was so happy to see that they don't use stickers that leave a residue on the product when you peel them off! BONUS POINTS! - It goes together easily! My husband and I were able to assemble it in less than 2 hours! Now, that being said, I'm one of those weirdos that enjoys assembling furniture in the dim light, with a glass of wine and some calming instrumentals on a Saturday night. It brings me calm when most people would be cursing everyone that thinks that Ikea is something other than a torture superstore. - The customer service was great! As said in a few other reviews - I received an incorrect piece, contacted the seller, and had a new one at my door before the week was through. They were prompt, helpful and communicative. - The only challenge we had during the whole process was getting the seal on the upright posts onto both the upper and lower sections in order to screw the support in. Not a huge deal though - just took a little more patience and elbow grease (luckily we had a fresh can ready). Honestly, I'm glad the seal fits that tightly! Just be prepared for a little annoyance and fingertip pain when you get to that part. THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU FOR ASSEMBLY: Don't tighten the screws on each step until all of them are in. I had no issues getting them aligned, didn't have to route out any holes to make them fit, I just got them all in place before I cranked down on the wrench. The parts are very well engineered, labeled consistently and come with very clear instructions. TL;DR: If you are looking for a pergola, this one is great quality at a great price.

After 7 months of use I can say it is worth every penny!
We absolutely love this pergola! We put it up in April—seven months in and it’s still going strong. We got the 10’ x 10’, and it’s big enough for a couch and loveseat with a gas firepit or table in the middle. We had tore down a shed that was on a concrete slab and put this in it's place. Went out and bought a mid-range Milwaukee hammer drill (attempted with a cordless ryobi but it wasn't powerful enough) and bolted the thing down. When I put up the pergola cover it was a windy day and I got worried because the joints in the poles didn't seem strong enough. I reinforced with some electrical tape where they connect and we haven't had any problems. Handles moderate wind fine but if I see that the gusts will be over 30 mph I close it to be safe. All you have to do to close it is slide it forward and use the pull strap to hook onto the pergola rafter right above it. Handles rain fine, if we know it is going to be a very heavy rain we close it but if it is just regular rain we have not had issues. The rain empties out of the sides and not much of it pools. After the rain i just take the broom and empty out the rain. We added some tarps to the side for extra shade. Attached them with removable zip ties so we can easily roll them up if we know a wind storm is coming. Got some quick connecting wood tiles for the floor to make everything look nice. We really love our setup. This was worth every penny. Will update if we get a hurricane, we got lucky this year. Had a positive experience with customer service as well. One small piece (the thing that holds/secures the pergola when open) was bent and I contacted them about it just to let them know because I was afraid that it would cost an issue. I bent it back in place and everything was fine. Customer support was responsive and even though everything worked out they still refunded me a few bucks (can't rememeber, maybe 10ish) and checked up on me to make sure everything went well.

Affordable pergola with a retractable cover
Rating: 7/10 Assembly Difficulty: 7/10 The overall quality of the material is good, and the canopy fabric feels durable. It offers solid value for the price. However, the assembly process could be smoother. Some sections of the manual are unclear and would benefit from better instructions. One critical point during installation is ensuring that the top bars are perfectly aligned; otherwise, the sliding canopy will not move easily. Additionally, the crossbars could be reinforced to prevent friction points that might interfere with the rollers. Once assembled, the structure looks great and feels sturdy, making it a good option for anyone looking for an affordable pergola with a retractable cover.

Great value and works well
I have had this pergola for two years and it has helped me up amazingly well. Easy to assemble, my husband and I did it pretty quickly. Has survived snow for two winters and no rust. The fabric now has a few holes in it but we also haven’t removed it at all.

Well-designed product, and great customer service
Purpose: We purchased this relatively lightweight pergola to provide summer shade along a vacation riverfront. We read many reviews of many products and chose Purple Leaf based on size, color and performance. This is not a heavy-weight super-industrial item - which was our choice - thus the moderate price. For now it is just sitting on grass, so we put in stakes, and then created bases out of log rounds. The rounds will protect the base from the lawn mower as well as stabilize it windy conditions. Wind can be steady along the river, so we retract the canopy when we are not using it. So far the pergola has held steady and provides much needed shade. We intend to remove the canopy for the winter, which will require removing some screws and poles, and will probably take 20-30 minutes; well worth the time from our perspective. Customer Service: FedEx left the box at our home, and it was clear that the box had been torn and re-taped during shipping, and some of the products had slipped out and were bent and/or scraped. We contacted Purple Leaf and they responded within a couple of hours. We told them what was broken and missing, sent a few photos, and they shipped the items IMMEDIATELY. We continued to have some shipping challenges with broken boxes (FedEx, come on, you are better than this), and Purple Leaf stuck with us, staying in contact, & tracking packages. The Pergola Assembly: For the price, this is kind of an amazingly engineered item as the only tools are allen wrenches (two different sizes). It took two of us to put the pergola together. We each read the instructions all the way through, checked every single part, and then organized all the items before doing any assembly. The instructions are all pictures, no text, so you do have to look carefully and pay attention. Only once did we miss a step but we only had to take out a few screws and re-do it. We needed two ladders to actually get the pieces upright and attached, so having more people could help at that step, but really you only need two people to do the assembly. We discovered one defect: one of the screw holes in one piece was too large for the screw. We worked around it and all is fine. We spread out the assembly over two days, first just putting all the posts and beams together, and then connecting everything the second day. We added solar bistro lights (with zip ties), and the pergola looks fabulous at night in our rustic little place.

NIGHTMARE TO ASSEMBLE
If I could give this a negative number, I would. ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE to assemble. Assembling Crosspieces 1 Problem: 3 holes aligned correctly, but the 4th was not. To correct this, we needed to redrill the hole to align it correctly. This happened on the other standing poles. 2 Problem: 1 of the pieces, you could see where the die struck the metal but did not cut through. My handyman had to drill this. 3. Problem: 1 of the holes was overpunched and did not fit part Z. 4: Problem: Plastic endcaps easily fall out. These will need to be glued in. Standing Poles 1. Problem: Stability. The 4 upright poles. After completing assembly, the poles rock on a gentle touch. This needs to be stable. This was mounted on a solid wood deck. The poles only have 2 screws on the bottom to attach it to the mounting plate. The seller's solution was to pour concrete into the standing poles. This is ridiculous as the whole pergola would have to be moved and then reinstalled on the deck. The product should have been made better and should be stable on setup. I am not sure what I am going to do yet to fix this issue.

Good core but inconsistent quality.
There have been pluses and minuses. It takes some work, but installation was well documented. The cover opens and closes easily. It looked really sharp after install. I’ve had two quality issues. The stitching where the pole slides through the cover was defective on one of the runs. The vendor rectified that with minimal issues. However, what I’m noticing after the first summer is that several sections of structure are fading into drastically different colors. Half of it retained its original brown color but the other half has faded into more of a bluish grey. Overall, I am very impressed with its durability and effectiveness, but I’m disappointed in its overall appearance after a full season.

NO COMPLAINTS.
I have no complaints about this 10x12 pergola. Mines came with NO dents or Scrapes. It’s not heavy but it is sturdy. I looked at several reviews before I made my purchase. Purple leaf had the most 5 stars so I decided to purchase from them. One review mentioned installing with Simpson brackets. I did not go that route because it would’ve cost me another $100. Another review mentioned putting pebble size stones in each post to prevent high winds from blowing this thing all over the place. I put one 3lb bag in each post. If you have a more open space you definitely want to secure your pergola. I also have mine on top of two thick pavers because I didn’t want to screw mines into my patio. Instead I bought the blue masonry screws to secure it to the pavers. THIS IS NOT FOR RAIN! Close the top when it’s going to rain. I also use bungee cords to keep it closed when it rains. This pergola does what it’s supposed to do provides shade. I recommend adding a roll up shade for even more shade. My shade is 10x6. I screwed it on the inside of the pergola . I also screwed the tie downs to the pergola as well. The tie downs prevent the roll up shade from blowing all over the place when it’s rolled down. got it on sale at lo$e$.🤣. At first glance all the screws and pieces are very intimidating. Just pay attention to the letters on each piece . A few times I had to take parts apart because I had for example Part C attached to part B. When its suppose to be part C with part C1 . The directions are not complicated like other reviews mentioned. Just put the correct parts together with the correct screws. It was sooooo hot outside when I put my pergola together that I put all the parts together in my house . I then put everything together outside with a drill. With only one helper. However I recommend at least 3-4 people when your ready to stand this thing up. They give you those little alloy wrenches but to use the drill you have to cut the small end off the wrench with a circular saw with a small saw blade that’s for metal so you can put it in the drill. PURPLE LEAF CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EXCELLENT. I lost a few of the rubber pieces that covers the screws and purple leaf got right back to me . Problem solved asap. I do recommend this company to anyone looking for a pergola.
