Hangar 9 Carbon Cub 15cc ARF HAN5065 Airplanes ARF Giant

I put together the electric version following the recommendations for power system. This is a good looking airplane. Good covering job over good construction. it was a pleasure getting it ready to fly. Now I need to take it out to the field. Anyway, I absolutely recommend this big 'ol carbon cub.

The plane looks great but has many issues. First the build quality is not good. The blind nut for one wing bolt fell out immediately requiring me to open up the wing to repair. The covering on one flap was delaminating when unboxed requiring me to purchase a roll to recover it. many small issues with fit requiring modification. The plane finishes out way to heavy. (around 12 pounds with 6s 3300mah battery) The landing gear alone weigh a whopping 1.5 pounds. The plane flies "heavy" and stalls early. it requires a long slow take off roll or it will ground loop or lift early and veer hard right. (just the opposite of the STOL performance of the full-scale aircraft) It also suffers from heavy adverse yaw problems. It's beautiful on the ground sitting still but flying it is a challenge. I would not buy it again but since I have it, I'm investing in carbon fiber gear and lighter wing strut in hopes of losing a pound and a half.

I've assembled close to 40 EPO R/C airplanes and jets of all types and was ready for a first Balsa ARF. The quality of the plane and instructions was great. I purchased all of the recommended components. My decision was also made due to the video series specifically for how to assemble this specific plane. I will definitely look at Tower Hobbies/Horizon Hobby and Hangar 9 for more similar planes.

I bought this and my dad is putting it together. The YouTube videos helped but it’s a great plane.
