Not Pemmican/Expensive / Good if you like candy, but won't store like pemmican
I looked forward to a traditional product. Pemmican is absolutely dried meat, all fat removed, and fat, rendered absolutely water free. The Metus' Indians added berries for ceremonial Pemmican. This is like candy, and it has water content, so it won't last. It says no added sugar, but—like dishonest paleface manufacturers—they add sugar in the form of apple juice. Don't buy this as a source of Pemmican, to store for up to 25 years. I doubt this would last much past a season. Think of it like any other corporate candy for you or your children. That said, if I ate candy, I would love this. The native population has been plied with sugar and low nutrition foods. I perfectly understand. For real pemmican, look elsewhere. Oh, It's VERY expensive. 6 - 3 oz packages for $60, that would be OK if it was Pemmican, 0% water, but this is very wet, so you pay $3.34 per ounce for the water content, not Keto friendly, not Carnivore friendly, not nutritious.

YUMMY! NO MSG, no soy, no nitrites; not too salty
Love that Tanka Bites have ingredients that I can recognize. I have a LOT of food allergies, so it's nice to have something that I can snack on and keep in my purse or take on a hike or camping/paddling trip. Love that there's no soy, MSG, or nitrites, like with most jerkies and that it's not too salty. It has a nice flavor. Wasn't sure how I'd feel about the cranberries, but I like it. Hubby hates cranberries, but he likes these a lot, too. Comes in a bar, too:Â Tanka Bar,natural Buffalo Cranberry Bar, 1-Ounce Bar (Pack of 12 bars) Â , which can be a little more portable, but I also find that it's moister, so leaves my fingers sticky - not so good if you're not going to be somewhere where you can wash your hands, plus I've found it's usually slightly more per ounce; but, takes up less space in my purse. Not sure if it's still being offered, but when I first purchased the Tanka Bites through the subscription service, the seller was offering a coupon, but only if you happened to see it and click on it - so look for that! YUMMY! I've tried this flavor, too:Â Tanka Bar, Spicy Pepper Blend, 1-Ounce Bars (Pack of 6) Â and it is also yummy, not too spicy (My spicy tolerance is only medium. Hubby does not find them hardly spicy at all.)

Love 'em, but inconsistent
I thought these were wonderful. Very tasty and I loved the cranberry. However the spice level was very inconsistent. I didn't mind, I rather enjoyed the differences, however my wife was not a fan of the big bite in some of the bags.I purchased the regular pack, not the spicy variety (Which I wouldn't have minded). The first bag we shared and found very pleasant both in flavor, texture and spice level. The next set of bags, were OK, but then my wife found the atomic fireball bag. I'm not sure if it was just mislabeled or what the deal was but that was hot for my tastes and I am the type that loves Dave's Insanity Sauce. Some of the other bags were very hot - even though they were labeled as the traditional bites.I realize this is a small processing facility, so some inconsistency is to be expected - but the differences between bags was a bit of Russian Roulette and may not do well for those that don't like hot food

Great snack, good sustained energy, could do without the sugar
This would be a good intro product for anyone "scared" to try buffalo jerkey or jerky in general. The flavor is really mild, not too smoky, and they are quite sweet because of the sugar added to the cranberries that are ground in with the buffalo. A bit too sweet for my taste, and not really "Paleo" if you are following this diet, but I feel pretty good on them, so a reasonable compromise.I was about to order another pack of 6 so I don't run out, but holy crap, Amazon! They are now more than $10.00 above what I paid less than 3 weeks ago. For some reason the spicy flavor is still the old price, around $29. I was happy to find they were more a couple dollars plus more affordable here than my local health food store, but not now.

Satisfying and I am buying it again.
This is pricey, but I do enjoy eating this stuff. In particular, I like being able to throw a pouch into my bag when I run out the door on one of "those" mornings. I can eat a few cubes and know that I did not eat a bunch of sugary junk and still have something in my stomach to get me through the next few hours. It is satisfying enough that I don't have to wolf down the whole pouch -- a pouch could last all day or a couple of days. Unlike a sugary bar, it doesn't add to cravings. It is a sustaining and satisfying snack food.I debated for a short while about buying more of the Tanka Bites, because it is so expensive, but it is convenient having it there when I need to eat something, preferably protein. Not too salty, softer in texture. Very digestible.

Love my Tanka Bites
This is my #1 go to snack. It's an age old Native American recipe that combines lean high protein buffalo and cranberries into a soft jerky. The taste is rich with just the right amount of cranberry tartness. I order them by the box (six packages). They are great to take hiking and fit nicely into a Paleo lifestyle diet. NOTE: Tanka Bites contain NO, MSG, Soy, Lactose, Nitrites, Antibiotics or added Hormones.Tanka, which means buffalo (if I remember correctly), comes in various forms and flavors. They all are good, but I still come back to the Tanka Bites as my mainstay.Tanka Bites and other products are made in South Dakota by a wholly owned Native American natural food company.

Nice Snack
I've always liked jerky, but after deciding to really restrict my gluten intake (most jerky brands add soy sauce) I went searching for jerky that was GF. I found Tanka, which had the added bonus of using buffalo meat, a healthier alternative to beef.I really like this jerky - though truthfully I could take or leave the cranberries, I eat jerky for protein. Some other reviewers think this jerky is pricey - in my experience, jerky is expensive. Tanka's price, I believe, is on par with other brands.I also like that it is super easy to bite into, and the size of the pieces is consistent - no little bitty pieces at the bottom of the bag. I will be ordering more!
