I've only just starting trying these, being a user of the JD standard strings. They do have there own tone but still recognisably JD. I think you do need to pick your guitar. I think they would liven up a slightly dark sounding guitar. I have them on a couple of Les Paul 'clones', and they do give a powerful sound, which I think is what they are designed to do. But they can still do the more laid back gentler stuff. Don't know what they are like on single coils.

Recommended!
Gave these a try on a whim really, partly in the process of testing a whole range of new and unusual string sets in different gauges and materials. Thought they wouldn’t be so great but have ended up being pleasantly proven wrong. Recommended for anyone looking for a string with an easier/lighter feel, especially with bends, but which also provides surprisingly good durability and very warm tone which still seems to provide plenty cut in the mix. Can’t see any reason to go to the even lighter 7 gauge set since these 8s are more than easy enough on the fingers yet still provide that classic Gibbons tone wiTh ease. Recommended!

My go-to electric guitar strings
For electric guitar, especially for rock and metal, I unconditionally swear by the Dunlop Wylde strings. The heaviest, most durable strings out there. They haven't let me down yet!

Allows you to play for longer without hurting your fingers. Sound is great also
The strings are so thin it feels like cotton thread. Sound through my speakers is just as good as the thicker strings to me.I can practice for longer, my fingers are not saw. You soon get used to them. I love them will be only using these from now on

Better than you'd think
Tried these as I have developed arthritis in my left hand and needed to drop down a gauge.Surprisingly, they sound good, much better than I was expecting, and make bends especially easy (and pain-free!)

Lively and long lived strings
I've been playing guitar for 50 plus years and these Dunlop Rev. Willie's strings are one of the better bang-for-your-buck strings that I've come across recently. They sound just fine and bend without breaking but the real value is how lively they stay for the the amount of time that they do. I play for awhile just about every day. I have a set of 9's on my #1 (Les Paul Standard) and there is a set that I've had on there for about 7 months or so and they still don't sound dead. All I do is after playing, when I'm wiping my guitar down before putting it back in it's case (which for new guitarists I suggest doing EVERY time you play..not on a stand, put it back in the case) I take some string fuel, apply it, and wipe it off..Keeps the strings nice and bright..but not usually for seven months, and that's the most impressive (and economical) thing about these strings..I'm gonna go ahead and change them even if they don't need it, I need to condition the fretboard, so as long as I'm doing that, might as well..But buy these!! They're a high quality set of strings that has unbelievable longevity!!
