Easy shred, easy clean!
I was so excited to get this, based on the pictures in the official listing! It's a bit smaller than I was expecting, at exactly 8 inches long for the whole thing. But it will definitely work for shredding carrots and garlic, which will be my main uses for it.Something that was not clear in the official images is that - the spoon is smooth on the back! The inner scoop part is notched all over as tho a very small knife tapped it in several dozen places. But not all the way thru like other carrot-shredders I have owned. Admittedly, this feature will make the spoon much easier to clean than I had been anticipating! It certainly seems to be stainless steel, and will probably go thru the dishwasher just fine on the top rack or lower. But to get it REALLY clean of all the tiny bits, you'll probably want to hand-wash it. With a rag that can handle a little shredding! Your fingernails and your washing gloves WILL be in danger, this boy is SHARP! Maybe just a high-pressure water sprayer or sand-blaster?? Does your kid have a water-squirt-gun? Something like that! LOL

Makes a Very Very Fine Mince of Small Items
This mincer makes a very very fine grate of small food items, such as baby carrots or garlic. You have to use a small piece of whatever it is that you are grating on this mincer. It makes the finest mince of anything that I've seen so if you need to "hide" certain items in your food, such as garlic or onion, this would produce the finest grate for a cook to hide things in a recipe. I don't think it would be good for a whole block of cheese, the surface area is small so grating a block of cheese would probably take a while and you would need to cut the block of cheese into smaller sizes to fit on this mincer.

Not actually a garlic press. More of a microplane/juicer.
I was under the impression that this was a traditional garlic press. With garlic presses, you rock the "spoon" on top of the garlic, and the garlic is extruded out of the holes. This is not that! The backside is solid. So, what is it...This is closer to a shredder or microplane, but it's so fine that when I used it on garlic and on ginger, all I got was the juice from them, and just a tiny bit of pulp (most of which sticks very inconveniently to the grater). I actually liked that feature for the ginger, but not so much with the garlic since I barely got any "meat" from an entire clove.Did come clean easily in the dishwasher.

For my mom's potato dumpling recipe. Game changer!
So, we have this family recipe for the most deeee-licious potato dumplings where the potatoes are ground down to basically mush. We had always used one of those standing cheese graters and we had to be really careful not to grind our knuckles at the end of the potato. Then I saw this. It grates very finely and we are able to use all of each potato without hurting ourselves. I will be getting more for each family household, possibly 2 for each because the price is right and we can have a team grinding to get the potatoes ready quicker. I'm sure this is great for ginger and garlic as well, but I've only done my dumplings so far. The whole thing is very sturdy, yet still lightweight, and it cleans easily as well. Great item at a very affordable price.

The best grated spoon for making baby food!
The media could not be loaded. I got this grated spoon to make baby food for my five-month-old baby. I cannot use my mixer for this purpose, since I just need to make a little bit of mashed foods, without mixing with any liquid. This spoon is perfect. I can make small quantities of baby food (from carrots, apples, or other seasonal fruits) that is very finely mashed, without the need to add water or other liquid. This spoon is also very useful in the kitchen for grating ginger, garlic, or other spices. It is a great value for the price (current price is $7.99). I highly recommend this spoon for anyone, and I think it is a must have for making baby food.

Great for ginger
This works really well at transforming fresh ginger into ginger-mush, and, if you have very fresh ginger it will also collect the juice. It rinses clean (or you can swirl it in your soup), and goes through the dishwasher without complaining. It's not a garlic grater or mincer, though the shape is good for pressing down on garlic cloves on the countertop, to break the skins.I like the ginger grater. I'm unimpressed by the keyword bombing.

Not bad....
When I read the word press in the title of this product, I made the incorrect assumption that the holes of the greater went all the way through so that you could push it down on a clove of garlic and have it pressed through the openings minced.Unfortunately, again, that is not the case you can only scrape the garlic or ginger on the surface which does hold them for use, which is nice and definitely is an upgrade to a box grater, or any other kind of grater for that sort of work, but it leaves me searching for my perfect garlic press still.

Fine grater clogs fast
This spoon-like grater is OK and convenient for small amounts of ginger or other Rhizomes such as turmeric, galangal, lesser galangal, and fingerroot. However, I found that it clogged rapidly after a small amount of ground ginger was produced. A basic ceramic grater from your local Asian market has more pronounced grinding nubs and does not clog.
