Always buy new balance
Update 7/22/2022 Yellowstone/Grand Teton hiking update Ok put these to the test. I'm 250 lbs. Hiked Grant Teton to Inspiration Point = 1 mile with a 1000 ft rise. The trail is blazed and mostly easy until the last rise which is all craggly rock (good for shredding tennis shoes). My son had regular tennis/walking shoes and it hurt his feet. My feet were little happy paws. Loved having these shoes. Usually I would use hiking boots. Also hiking around the boardwalks in Yellowstone and some of the trails. The shoes held up and were solid hiking shoes to the point that I never had to pull out my hiking boots. Maybe if we were in the back country one might need boots for ankle support. But all other hikes these would be great. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shoe is great. Best fit is to lace all the way to the top eyelets because it keeps the shoe snug. Very comfortable. Going to use these hiking in yellowstone. I will try to update after my trip this year.

Gr8 fit like all New Balance
Update: have had em a few weeks now and while they are great for trumping around Arizona trails (lots of rocks) they are so comfy I have taken to wearing them all day long. GREAT support and feel. Based on User Reviews I ordered both 11 x wide and 11.5 x wide since many people claimed they ran small. This was NOT my experience. My normal 11, 4E size fit true to form and the general feel of the shoe is nice and comfy. I do 'feel' the toe box a bit but I am not sure that does not just have to do with how I have laced them. Also, I am not used to wearing 'hard' shoes as normally I wear running shoes which have a 'soft' upper and toe box, so no comparison. Sending the 11.5s back today, thank you PRIME!!! The shoes look awesome, I really like the style and colors. Laces seem puny, which makes 2 from NB with cheap laces. I hate that as they tie up in knots easily. Someone wrote they are now made in Idonesia. That sucks, NB has always marketed "made in USA". Overall for 62 bucks I think they will great for hiking in AZ where we have lots of rocks and it get HOT. This seems a good choice. I will update after having used them a while.

Long wearing, comfortable, good traction, good for occasional running and other sports
I have worn this model of New Balance shoes for many years. When they wear out, I just buy a new pair. I recently replaced my shoes because my feet had gotten larger with aging and I needed a larger pair. The didn't have the size that I wanted at the local sporting store so I tried a different brand. That didn't work out. The most important reason was that the outside part of the sole hit before the heel area. That through off my balance. I decided to buy my new shoes on Amazon if the still carried that model. They not only did but they had a choice of colors. I had always gotten the ones with orange trim before, I went with the greenish trim this time. The shoes were exactly the same as the ones I have worn over the years except that they were a half size larger. I came them four stars, based mostly on the fact I didn't know how they compare with other similar brands. For me, they have been five stars. Very long wearing, very comfortable, good traction on slippery trains, nice looking, reasonably light for occasional running and for occasional use with court sports.

Good New Balance fit, but run a bit smaller than I was used to.
A good fitting shoe, but not quite as perfect as past purchases. For years, I wore a 9 in this New Balance style, but today's 9s pinch my right big toe in the worst way. So I upsized to 9.5 to get an acceptable fit. The older 9s that fit so well in the past were made in Vietnam. The ones that I just received today, upsized to a 9.5, are made in China. Changing off-shore manufacturers may account for sizing differences. Time will tell if Chinese production has the wear life my older made-in-Vietnam pairs delivered. Tread appears to be good. I do a lot of mountain-side hiking and field work, I like the aggressive nature of the New Balance soles (which in the past have typically lasted me just under a year). I've yet to wear out a pair of New Balance uppers.

Excellent trail runners
Use these shoes for work mostly. I deliver food so I’m outside in all conditions and needed a shoe that’s breathable shoe for all conditions. I can get athlete’s foot if the shoe is not breathable enough. I had a previous version of very similar New Balance trail runners that lasted years, they were excellent. These are basically the same. Thick, rugged outsole for all all conditions. Water resistant yet breathable. When it gets warm out again I’ll use them to run trails in the forest too. Very comfortable and well built. Laces stay tied. These shoes are also good for hiking. I wish the shoes were completely black but they look good. I prefer to wear my waterproof hiking boots when I know I will be stepping through big puddles or if it’s winter conditions. I had to return a previous new balance trail runner that was not nearly as rugged or well built. My only gripe is that the one of the shoe laces got a tiny knot in it that I will need tweezers to loosen. I do not see the need to spend more on trail runners. These trail runners are rugged, inexpensive, light, breathable, and comfortable. I think New Balance discontinued making them so these shoes probably won’t last much longer on Amazon.

Decent Trail Running Shoe, but with Some Drawbacks
I recently purchased the New Balance 481 v3 Trail Running Shoe, and overall, my experience with it has been a mix of positive and negative aspects. While it certainly has some notable features, there are a few drawbacks that prevent me from giving it a higher rating. Starting with the positives, the shoe offers a solid level of traction on various terrains. Whether I was running on muddy trails or rocky paths, the outsole provided sufficient grip, allowing me to maintain stability and confidence throughout my runs. Additionally, the shoe's durability impressed me; it held up well even after multiple rigorous trail runs, showing minimal signs of wear and tear. In terms of comfort, the 481 v3 does a decent job. The cushioning provides a good amount of support, especially when dealing with uneven surfaces. The midsole offers enough responsiveness to enhance my running experience, although it may not be as plush or responsive as some other models in its class. The shoe also offers ample room in the toe box, allowing for natural foot movement. However, the fit of the 481 v3 could be improved. While the toe box is spacious, the overall fit feels somewhat loose, especially in the midfoot area. This can cause a lack of stability, which is not ideal when navigating challenging terrains. The lacing system doesn't do much to address this issue, as it doesn't provide enough lockdown or customization options. Another downside of the 481 v3 is its weight. Compared to other trail running shoes in its category, it feels bulkier and heavier. This can be a disadvantage when seeking speed or maneuverability on technical trails. Additionally, the shoe lacks sufficient breathability, resulting in sweaty and uncomfortable feet during longer runs. Lastly, the design and aesthetics of the 481 v3 are rather plain and unremarkable. While this might not be a significant factor for everyone, I personally prefer a shoe that not only performs well but also looks appealing. In short, the New Balance 481 v3 Trail Running Shoe has its strengths, such as solid traction and durability. However, the issues with fit, weight, breathability, and aesthetics prevent me from rating it higher. If you're looking for an affordable option with decent performance on moderate trails, it might be worth considering, but for more serious trail runners, there are better options available.

Size and comfort amazed me.
Wearing size 15, finding shoes that fit, everywhere, and are sized correctly, can be a bit of a headache. I gave these a shot, especially since they go up to 16's. I went with my usual narrow/normal width, but they have wide and even and extra wide option. So I had plenty of room, in case these were China-sizing. As it turns out, these are a perfect fit for my standard size 15 feet. As well, they feel like wearing a feather. I like steel toed shoes and boots for regular wear, work, and other things. So I am used to heavy, hard, shoes and boots. These are a joy to wear when I can. And I will try to wear them more often. If I could be in love with a shoe, leisure... perhaps light trekking... these would be it. I can't speak to longevity. But, for the price? If I had to buy a pair of these a summer, I would do it... if I was to use them enough. Actually, if they are still available this fall, I may put up a pair or two more... new... for when... or if... the world fails or I need a pair sooner than anticipated. I am extremely pleased with the feel, weight, and yet protection afforded by these shoes to my albeit limited experience.

Overpriced for the comfort levels.
Really uncomfortable. They don’t feel like any New Balance I’ve had before. Very sore on the soles of my feet. Didnt come with any tags of other product info. Bit dodgy maybe. Also, please confirm delivery date before you buy as the date changed significantly between me clicking buy and the confirmation email coming through.

Add a spring to your walking
Only used for walking not running. Very comfortable. Shoe strings a tad too long.
