Decent, simple force gauge
I ordered this product to support my work from home endeavor (I am an engineer). There are often times when I need to quantify small or large forces with prototype parts, and this seemed like a perfect solution. I ordered the 300N version (60lbs) since I thought having some extra capacity might come in handy - and in fact it already has. Before writing the review, I recently brought it into the office to do a quick comparison of the force readings I was getting from this unit vs a calibrated force gauge we keep there. I set both gauges to read in Newtons for this evaluation, and I found that between 0 and about 60 Newtons (about 15 lbs), they both showed values within 1 Newton (0.22 lbs). This is all the accuracy that I need for my application so I am happy with that. I didn't apply the full capacity of 300N (about 67 lbs) in this evaluation since it was difficult to hold them both and apply that much force. This gauge has peak functionality to capture the highest load observed (always handy), and an automatic backlight that turns off automatically after a period of time (but the display still shows the force value). If the gauge detects another force applied, the backlight turns back on. There are also user adjustable settions for several functions (like not displaying small values - "shielding" per the manual naming), and options for calibration which I have not attempted (and don't intend to at this time). It also includes a plastic case and several different tips/adapters that can connect to the threaded end of the load "input". An extension rod and a hook are also provided, and I like that the hook can swivel independent of the threaded nut portion of the hook. A small bag of screws/nuts/washers is also in the kit, and it took me a while to figure out what they are meant for -- small socket head cap screws and washers are for mounting the gauge to a fixture using threaded inserts on the back of the gauge housing. There are also a few larger nuts that fit the threads on the load input of the gauge. My only complaint (and the reason for deducting 1 star) is that the battery cover on my gauge does not fit tightly. It is very easy to accidentally knock the cover loose during handling when you wrap your hands around the back of the gauge. I tried bending the latching tab a bit to get more engagement with the housing when it snaps into place, and this helped slightly, but it is still quite loose. I even attempted to remodel it myself in CAD and print a replacement, but this didn't provide much improvement either. I don't want to risk breaking the tab off the original battery cover, so I am hesitant to bend it to aggressively. From a functional standpoint, I am very happy with this device. I just wish the cover would stay in place without sticking a piece of tape on the back to hold it there. For now I am using the original cover on it, and I put the printed part in the case as a backup.
