Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Color, Permanent Hair Dye, Intense Colour, For All Hair Types, 6.60 Fiery Red

I know this product has had a mass of reviews already - but we wanted to share our experience of it with darker hair. My wife (photographed) has naturally darker brown hair (she had previously had the ends highlighted - several years ago - which has mostly grown out, but is visible in the “before” photo. For the most part, her hair is just dark brown.) We were skeptical as to how effective the “Firey Red” would be - but have found that it’s fairly true to their claims. It does, somehow, lighten darker hair. It’s especially vibrant when caught by sunlight (we haven’t shown this in the photos - as generally that isn’t how it appears - but trust us … it is properly red when caught). I would say under typical (winter, at the time of reviewing) lighting it’s a shade less vibrant than the packaging suggests. You can see the length of her hair - we bought two bottles and I’m glad we did. We made it with one - but boy was it close. We used every last drop, and even then… I wouldn’t have minded it having another 10%. But nothing came out blotchy or badly covered, so YMMV. We followed the instructions as accurately as we could - and let it “brew” for the maximum suggested time. It didn’t take long, wasn’t needlessly messy, and was quite romantic as a couple doing it together. Definitely recommended - exceptional value for what you get. It has continued to wash out a little over the last month - so be careful what towels you use in those first 10 or so washings! But the colour has only continued to brighten - as if by some sort of magic. I hope this helps anyone in their buying dilemma!

Lovely colour but 100% doesnt have intense colour for 8 weeks, think im 3 weeks in and it needs topping up again.

This is my go to hair dye. It mixes well, goes on easily and evenly and gives my hair a beautiful colour and shine that lasts. My hair is so soft and shiny after using and I always get compliments on it. The price is excellent as well.

One of those rare and wonderful moments where the colour comes out the same as on the box. How many times over the past thirty years I've used a box dye and ended up nothing like...This one really does come up a beautiful cherry red. I have light red/copper hair (my favourite euphemism for ginger) so my base colour was quite fair to start with, and I only used it to dye a darker stripe in my fringe, but it worked brilliantly. I don't like the baggy gloves provided, they make it quite difficult to hold things precisely, so I used my own tight fitting latex gloves, but the gloves are the only minus point. It's easy to mix and apply, doesn't overpower the bathroom with fumes (it smells sort of fruity) and the faint stain on my hairline scrubbed off easily. The colour is really lovely, a deep red but not the plum/ burgundy sort of red, more like that shade of autumnal leaves really. It may come out darker on black/dark brown hair but on lighter hair it's very bold. Definitely a colour with character!

If you have dark brown hair like me, don't expect the comparison images on the box to be accurate. You will get a red sheen and a bit of a dark red hue but it's nothing bright or colorful. It will remain dark. Smells lovely though.
