In Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” an all-new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. Directed by James Bobin, who brings his own unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on screen in 2010 with “Alice in Wonderland,” the film is written by Linda Woolverton based on characters created by Lewis Carroll and produced by Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd and Tim Burton with John G. Scotti serving as executive producer. “Alice Through the Looking Glass” reunites the all-star cast from the worldwide blockbuster phenomenon, including: Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter along with the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall. We are also introduced to several new characters: Zanik Hightopp (Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter’s father and Time himself (Sacha Baron Cohen), a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock. Alice Kingsleigh (Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland and her friends the White Rabbit (Sheen), Absolem (Rickman), the Cheshire Cat (Fry) and the Mad Hatter (Depp), who is not himself. The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends – and enemies – at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race to save the Hatter before time runs out. Presented in Digital 3D, Real D 3D and IMAX 3D, Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass” opens in U.K. cinemas on May 27, 2016. Review: Spectacular from beginning to end - Although not directed by Tim Burton, he is a producer and this film has the same feel as the previous one. The costumes are absolutely gorgeous and we learn a little of the background of the red and white queens. Hamish turns up, even more obnoxious than in the first film. There are some edge of the seat thrills as Alice tries to evade time and learns a useful lesson. Spectacular from beginning to end. Fun film
Love anything featuring Jonny Depp. Such a versatile character actor. Also felt the effects were amazing, plus Helen Boheim-Carter was brilliant as the Queen of Hearts. Brilliant film.

Tick tock
This is a sequel to Disney's 2010 'Alice in Wonderland' movie. Tim Burton, who directed that, is just one of the producers this time around. Some familiarity with that film will help you get into this. But you've probably seen that if you're reading this, so it shouldn't be a problem. This is still very much in the style of the 2010 film. So anyone who didn't like that should steer clear. It's also not really an adaptation of the book 'Alice Through the looking glass'. Instead it's credited as 'based on characters created by Lewis Carroll.' The producers having adjudged that the nature of the narrative of said book wouldn't work as a film. But Alice does go through a looking glass at one point in the story. So literary purists might want to steer clear as well. The film begins a few years after the end of the first one, with Alice [Mia Wasikowska] having a grand time as Captain of her father's ship. But that's not something society of the time was kene on young ladies doing. So forces are conspiring against her. She's diverted from that by problems in Wonderland. Where something is wrong with the Hatter. And the only way to save him is a quest through Time. But Time itself [Sacha Baron Cohen] is not something you can easily beat... This looks absolutely gorgeous on screen, with superb costumes and art direction giving you gloriously colourful images. The plot is a time travel one so it does zip around and require you to pay attention and keep up. But it's not hard to do that. Mia Wasikowska is an excellent lead who really gives it her all and carries the film superbly. But then there's Johnny Depp. Six years ago people loved him dressing up and being eccentric. But time has moved on and now it gets the opposite reaction. Fortunately though the Hatter isn't the entire focus of the film, and is only on screen every so often, so he doesn't get in the way as much as he could, or get that annoying. Sacha Baron Cohen however, despite going silly voice with his performance, makes Time a three dimensional and very strong character, creating the occasional laugh out of his actions. As such a performance should be. So he's very good indeed. And also commands attention when on screen. There's a good cast of reliable character actors in supporting roles, with a short voiceover from Alan Rickman giving you one last chance to hear him on film. And the central metaphors, in addition the usual just be yourself, all go with the time concept. So are all rather well handled. Those are ultimately predictable, but it does make it a fun and engaging watch as it goes along. A decent bit of escapism, which is great to look at, and handles it's themes well. It's not a bad watch. There are no extra scenes in the credits, but there is some very nice animation early on during them. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options: Languages: English, Greek, Italian. Subtitles: English, Danish, Finnish, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish. It begins with several trailers, which can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. All of these turn up in the sneak peeks section of the disc anyhow. There are no extras whatsoever.

As incomprehensible as first film
When you have visuals this good, why pair them up with a second rate script and tenth rate acting? Has a made-for-tv feel about it, all the effort put in by the FX people wasted by basic dialogue and junior school drama class performances. At least they kept the same cast and voice talents.

Better than the first. I would say it has a more interesting and adult story-line. The first 'Alice' was visually flat-out-fun to see but, I found the acting a bit lacking (with a few exceptions of course!) The new character "Time" is much more interesting to watch than the Crispin Glover role in the original. Depp's role is also not quite so cartoonish in this one, better I think. The White Queen does not shine like she did in the first one (loved her in that!) Helena Carter "Red Queen" is still there, but her role just lacks the luster of the original movie. You'll find a lot of the old characters just have cameo appearances, but that does not take away from the movie! It is well done and entertaining! PS. No cutting off of heads in this one, so safe for kids to see. However, I don't think they'ed like it anyway. As I said, a more adult story-line.
