YRD256 Not app based But it was a great Black Friday buy! I would recommend
Con- the model YRD256 isn’t app based. This won’t link up to the Yale app on your phone. It’s a $100 upgrade (AYR202-CBA-KIT), knowing this I would have just bought the Nest+Yale model.-Package didnt come with detailed install instructions, set up guide and key pad menu option. I had to figure it out and look online, to compete the install and the set up. It almost felt like a refurbished unit but everything looked new.-You can’t mix n match colors. My door came with bronze hardware on the outside and silver on the inside. I opted for silver based on the interior look. The outside doesn’t look that bad.-keypad light tends to turn off quickly but this is probably to preserve battery life.Pros: easy install onto my door.- the key pad is a perfect size for the front.- backlit key pad and the black screen is super sleek.- speaker quality is good.- good integration with SmartThings and Alexa app.- good response time when asking alexa to lock or unlock.-good response to asking alexa the status of the lock.-quiet-cool privacy feature, but you have to do this at the unit vs. being able to use the Yale app.- multiple users / access codes- you have options for indicator light, volume, and other settings, configured at the lock.I wonder how long the batteries will last 🤔

So far so good
So far I have really liked this lock and it has functioned flawlessly. I like that it is a one press lock and you don't have to enter the code to lock. The lock moves smoothly with no issues. The zwave functionality has been working well for the most part. It is directly connected to Smartthings with no issues, but I also have it connected to Home Assistant (via ST). Whenever HA restarts it always thinks the lock is unlocked even though it is not. That is not a lock issue, just mentioning for others that may be looking for a HA integration. With that said though, these locks do seem to be overpriced for what they are. A simple combo powered lock runs less than $50 these days, not sure why manufacturers think the zwave connection part is worth another $100.

Great Lock!
Bought this to replace our old Kwikset that was going through batteries every 3 months. Have had this one installed for two years and only replaced the batteries once! Easy to install and setup. Love the sleek design and keypad too.

Integration with Ring - Meh. Compares quite unfavorably with the August Smart Lock Pro it replaced
I was probably spoiled by the feature set of my August lock, because the Yale Assure Lock SL with Z-Wave, Key-Free Touchscreen Deadbolt is a dunce by comparison. The one thing it does well is connect to the Ring Alarm Z-wave hub - - but integration with Ring means forfeiting most of the remote functionality afforded in the August app. That means actually having to touch the lock's screen (complete with using a "master code" and having the five-fold paper manual in front of you translate the functions into push-button sequences) to adjust the volume, enable the inside indicator, configuring one touch or delayed locking,.... basically anything except assigning user codes.Speaking of user codes.... the stand alone lock permits 6 digit user codes, but once it's connected to Ring, you're limited to 4 digits - - (connecting the lock to my home security system limits codes to 4 digits instead of the native 6 - - go figure). There's no geo-fencing, no one-time user codes (huh?), and no time constrained (schedule based) codes (The Ring app politely informs me, "Schedules can't be used with smart locks at this time"). . The lock has no "door sense" feature to tell you if the the door's been left ajar. Quite oddly (stupidly?), the auto lock time delay can't be set to more than 30 seconds. To its credit, keypad entry is smooth, and the more classic manual deadbolt knob confuses less people than the August's hulky mechanism. Installation was easy and required no retrofits to our existing door or latch bores.Mercifully, the lock connects to Alexa via Ring. Alexa allows locking and unlocking to be controlled in routines. I used the Ring alarm door sensor "closed" as a trigger to auto lock after a wait period of my choosing.Overall I'm underwhelmed both with the device's native feature set and the primitive Ring alarm integration. The Alexa connector allows for adequate automation - albeit without geo-fencing. It's one of the very few locks that is certified to work with the Ring alarm Z-wave hub, and the Prime Day pricing wooed me over.
