Perfect little pump for draining rain water from pool cover.
I took a chance on this little pump when two major storms dumped a lot of water on our pool cover. It really did the job. My only criticism is that the included pickup plate needed to be enclosed in a laundry delicates bag to prevent the takeup from being compromised. I added a couple of small stones to keep it at a deeper spot on the cover and it moved a lot of water in a relatively short time. I added a garden hose to its output and it sent the water right to the drain.

Not bad while it lasted.
Overall while this worked it worked great. I used it to transfer 100gals of water from my pool to my cold plunge tank about every 3 weeks. It was a little slower than I cared for but I couldn’t find much that was more powerful with self priming. It worked like a charm until my last use when it seemed to slow down but still worked. Today the little plastic impeller came completely apart into pieces. So much for that. I’d say for small projects maybe. The only problem with this unit is this cheap plastic impeller. Should’ve been metal and it would’ve lasted years.

Poweful
Poweful little pump, moves the water from the rain barrels up the slope to the garden quickly and with good pressure for the spray heads. Stayed cool even after a couple hours and running dry for probably 15 minutes or so. Extra parts for rebuild were a nice touch, I hopefully won't forget where I put them by the time I need them. Wish it had an on/off switch, but I fixed it with a toggle.

Disappointed
First off they say it is self priming. Kind of, but they want you to pour water in the outlet first to lube the impeller. You have 15 seconds to get water flow or you will burn up the impeller. That worked. I guess each time you use it you could squirt a bunch of petroleum jelly in the inlet to get it started. It actually pumps too well. If you are working with a shallow pool it will pump the water surrounding the suction head down so low it starts sucking air. Now you just have foam coming out and you are worrying about the impeller wearing out. I think I will grind the head legs down so it sits lower. I guess in a deep pool it would work OK but slow. In a shallow pool it doesn't work well. It needs constant supervision. If I had some little water feature pump mabe the head could be useful. Plus the hose is so stiff it is going to pull the head of the floor. I had to put a brick on it. This really needs a smaller hose and pump. It is hardly worth $55.

Great for draining water heaters; excellent value
07/26/2022==========I got this pump to quickly drain my 60 gallon gas water heater for maintenance. It emptied it in 10-15 minutes. My water is pretty clean but I assembled a set with an inlet filter (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07Y1JYQJZ) and the requisite hose fittings (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08G1V68BS). After draining the entire contents, there were barely any sediments or scale buildup in the filter, so it was an easy cleanup. I may put some lubricant in the pump inlet (I have some for the pressure washer) but it seems like it may not be necessary, given how clean it is.Just one note: while draining the water heater, the water flow was quite significant - like a faucet open fully. In the process, and especially as it neared the end, the hose on the inlet side started collapsing from the pressure differential. You way want to use a stiffer hose than the one included in the kit.Overall, I am very impressed at how well it works. I'll try to update the review after having used it more than once.
