This past Christmas I purchased a number of books to help me build a larger working vocabulary. It's one of my New Year's resolutions. ROGET'S THESAURUS OF WORDS FOR WRITERS isn't set up like most Thesauri and can be enjoyably read from front to back. This book is perfect for what I want to do.

Just what I wanted

I am trying my hand at writing fiction. I'm a simple person...only way I know how to describe it. The books I read are by authors that write paranormal fiction thrillers. They write simple, easy going stories. They flow, do not have a lot of fancy, long hard words. This Thesaurus has just that. Not sure how much I'd use it? I may return it. Not saying it couldn't be very useful to some people but it's just not words I'd use.

Useless. Basically a short dictionary and a short thesaurus. Most words you're looking for won't be found. The full Roget's Thesaurus is still the gold standard.

although i look all words up on the computer, this book is so handy and so quick and easy to use when i'm writing anything, that it's by my side all the time now. it's fun to just page through and see how the material is presented...I don't think Mr. Roget would be pleased, but I am!
