Bay City Belle: 2 (In Old California) : Kennedy, Shirley: desertcart.in: Books Review: To be honest, I've stopped writing reviews , but when I finished reading Bay City Belle I was compelled to tell romance readers that this is a must read if you want to sail along after a few pages and just sit up most of the evening and follow Belle Ainsworth on her journey from Savannah to San Francisco to fulfill her promise to marry a man she's never met. Her journey is far from boring and neither is the man waiting for her on the golden shores of San Francisco. There are many exciting moments along the way and a surprise twist at the end. I highly recommend this well-written novel. You will not be disappointed. Review: Eventually I found myself skipping through this book to get to the end. I prefer more light hearted books. Story starts off with the tragedies of the civil war leaving Belle with the loss of her father, oldest brother, betrothed, mother and her other brother slowly dying from his injuries. With no eligible men left in Savannah she takes the advice of another mail order bride and her brother to travel to San Francisco to marry. During the train ride plus the arrival at the city she encounters sad and terrifying events. I really liked the H, Yancy and Belle was okay. In my personal ratings I gave this 2 stars; the good deeds of the story were not enough to offset the dark mood this book put me in. Maybe it will encourage readers to do good deeds? It's a clean read.
