Pros and Cons
Pros: Good as a starter/refresher specially for a teacher that has been on a teaching hiatus or out-of-state educator, includes most competencies.Cons: Topics are not organized. NO index or glossary. Content is redundant. Little overprice for what it offers. No illustrations. The book helped me get started but I had to search for other resources online. If you have the money and have no idea where to get started I recommend you buying the book and reading it. If not, familiarize with the competencies (get test guide on ETS website) and build your own review material. There are tons of resources online, wish I could tell you but Amazon doesn't let me.I am certain that if the book had competencies organized into topics and subtopics, provided index/glossary, included and presented information in a more engaging and simple way (charts, diagrams, etc) it would be worth the money. But when you receive the book you realize that you have a lot of work since content is not cut to the chase and you need to summarize A LOT!

Poorly written with a Gender Bias
I am an out of country educator (Canada), working towards my Permanent Texas Teaching certificate. This study guide had great reviews so I went for it. I'm 25 pages in and have gone back to order the REA version (which I bought for the EC-6 test after buying this one). The Good:Its short (125 pages of information, a 100 question test with answer key, plus helpful study tips for a grand total of 170 pages). Its dense (not a lot of superfluous info) - great for someone who already knows the info (though I wouldn't call it an "easy read").The Bad:As others have posted, it has many grammatical errors (missing punctuation, spelling errors, etc). Though it is legible. What made me stop is the horrible gender bias. On page 21 it suggests that boys are physically aggressive and that it can be curtailed with sport, while girls are emotionally aggressive (hurting feelings/ruining reputations) and that should be redirected to "performing services helping others" (I read this as volunteering). On page 25 it speaks about puberty and again slants boy changes positively ("height and muscle mass" and "getting girls' attention"), while girls risk rebellion or "anorexia and bulimia."Obviously these are generalizations, but as I work to remember and learn terminology, I don't want to additionally fight the writers' gender biases.

Great study guide, very useful!
OK, here's the lowdown on this... I used this and the official study materials from TEA to study for this test. I am an out of state educator with 19 years of experience, however, I read this book cover to cover, did the practice tests in the book and online. I passed the test the first time with lots of room to spare. I think if you really read this and dedicate just a few hours each day leading up to the test (I studied for a month), you will pass easily.

Great Study
I first was thinking, oh my this is a lot to read with small letters and front and back and not really many blank pages. Lol. I thought this study would take forever, but the reading was very straight to the point and informative. I breezed through the book in no time and was able to retain the information with no problems. Great study guide and a cheat for day to day teaching.

It works!!!
This is the 4th time I've used your study manuals (previously content exams) and the have helped me pass every test by focusing on what's important. I don't believe I would have passed without your study guides and I know I'll pass my PPR test with the help of your product. I've been extremely pleased with what you've created and the fact that I've bought four manuals attests to that.
