The first ever film of an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical taken straight from the stage - at the New London Theatre on Drury Lane. The longest running musical on the West End, this production features Elaine Paige and Sir John Mills in its cast.

Reliving my Childhood!
My mum took me and a friend to see Cats in the West End for my 11 Birthday. My Birthday has almost always fallen during May Half Term. That year Mum just happened to pick up The Times and saw several musicals were doing a "kids Week".I wonder if they still do them? It was fantastic, we got to go behind the scenes, even under the stage, the really lovely lady who played Bumballarina at the time, painted our faces to look like her's or other "Cats". As I was the only kid whose birthday it was she asked me if I would like to help painting faces! She would start them and do all the tricky bits and showed me what I needed to do! It really was an amazing birthday and opportunity. I still treasure the pictures of myself and Laura (my best friend) with the make-up on, the Yak hair wigs (which I vaguely remember her saying cost around £700 each!) & BumballerinaI actually got a bit emotional watching this! Watch this instead of the crap, ridiculous, idiotic Movie that should never have seen the light of day 😂🤪😈😂

The Cats whiskers
Saw Cats many years ago and loved it. Recently saw a excellent youth production , which whetted my appetite , so bought the DVD. Wow!! Completely blown away , loved every minute from the opening chords to the spine tingling finale. And the close up camera allowed the viewer to see the details missed in the stage show. Mungugstrap's slithery entrance, the kittens playfulness, the shoebox masks of the pugs, and so so much more. Wonderful performances from the youngest Kitten to Dear Old Gus,(sir John Mills) who broke my heart.Elaine Page might have been the big name, but for me she was just a member of a great ensemble. I loved Michael Gruber's Munkgustrap, trying to keep control and protect the kittens. John Partridge a great Tugger. I could go on and on. For me this really was the Cats whiskers.

Family entertainment
Got this for the family to enjoy has they've never seen cats, it's probably the closest to watching the live version you can get. Absolutely great quality & arrived in excellent condition.

Beautiful!! and yet...
This is a wonderful version of Cats, my all-time favourite musical. I find the dancing and singing talents in this version to be fantastic, so it's a great buy.Nevertheless, it leaves out a piece which I very much liked in the NYC version of the musical I saw, Growltiger's Last Stand, which I've always thought to be fantastic. This, in my opinion, is a failure, albeit a small one.Overall, I liked it very, very much. I think this is a lovely version of the musical and worth buying.

Amazing! Really need the next generations (like me) to see this instead of rubbish 2019 version!!
Only just discovered this version even existed, as 1998 is a little before my time, but I was curious to watch cats as I have never seen the musical. I would be lying if I said it was anything less than fantastic!! This is an amazing play and I cannot stress enough how vital it is to watch this instead of the 2019 monstrosity :)I am very, very glad I purchased this instead of renting, because I will now be watching it as often as physically possible 👍🏼Incredible, fun, catchy and exciting. Highly recommend!

Enjoyable but not as good as seeing Cats live
Saw this DVD the night before going to see Cats on tour at our local theatre, although I really enjoyed it and knew what to expect when I went to the show I enjoyed the show much more than the DVD.There was one scene in the show which was omitted from the DVD which is Growl Tigers Last Stand starring Gus The Theatre Cat this piece was worth going to the show for alone, I have since found out it was due to the age of John Mills that it was left out as they considered he may not be up to it so that scene was cut, still the DVD is still worth watching some brilliant songs and superb dancingWould recommend

I didn't think this was as good as the hype
The filming isn't great. There is no magic of watching a musical. At least I and 2 of my kids felt it so. Only 1 of my kids - the cat loving one - likes this show. Also no subtitles and can hardly hear what they're saying sometimes. With subtitles it would have helped us understand a lot more. I felt the entire musical was a bit plotless and more like an ongoing introduction of the different members of the Cats family. Found 2 of the theme songs memorable and well sung and also the Grizabella character was well-acted. I don't know. Just not my favourite musical. I might have found it more enjoyable seeing it live though. Lots of hype surrounding this musical, probably helped by the fact 2 very catchy songs (with 1 of them very famous - "Memories") are from this musical, so I always wanted to watch it. But now after watching it, I didn't think it lived up to the hype. Maybe watching live would be better, like I said before, but I wouldn't probably bother spending the money to watch it live now.
