Understanding what I eat and how it affects my body. FINALLY! Thank you, Dr. Li & Epoch Times!
I read about this book and Dr. Li in The Epoch Times several months ago. I liked what I read so I ordered the book. WOW! If you have struggled with diets, your weight, wondering what to eat and your overall health, then this is the book for you.Dr. Li breaks it all down to a real science with facts to back it up. However, the read is enjoyable and not overly scientific.Dr. Li even addresses behaviors such as when you go out to eat at a restaurant or dine at a friends home, making sound suggestions on how to approach the meal/menu prior to taking your first bite. It sounds simple but his recommendations hit home in a way I have never had other so-called diets do. This book is NOT a diet. This book explains foods to you, how they affect your overall health, and then you can choose to eat how you want to eat, knowing how the foods will affect you.Now I know how foods affect my body when I eat them. It is as simple as that. I found myself reading many portions of this book aloud to my husband and what I read rang true to him, too. We have completely revamped our eating habits and we are reaping many rewards because of it.The foods we are now eating taste wonderful, our overall feeling of health has vastly improved, and we are both losing weight. I have only 5-6 more pounds to go to reach my ideal weight. (I am finally off processed sugar and it was painless.)I've told so many of my friends and coworkers about this book. If you truly want to change your life and eat to honor the God-given earthly vessel you were blessed with, you will buy this book and read it.My copy is very marked up and highlighted. Also, the many lists and recipes Dr. Li provides, especially those fat-fighting foods he says we need to eat, are helpful. I cannot say enough good things about this invaluable resource regarding food. I have learned so much and relished reading every word of the book. I find I pick it up often to revisit certain sections and as reminders.I am now considering buying his first book, Eat to Beat Disease!Thank you, Dr. Li. My quality of life has changed in large part due to your book, Eat to Beat Your Diet. Food will NEVER be the same to me going forward.FYI: I am 65, exercise daily, drink 120 ounces of alkaline Kangen water daily, and take no medications. I am thankful.

A very flexible approach to dieting
This is a GREAT diet book. It’s a very flexible diet approach, not restrictive at all. Dr. Li explains many nutritional concepts and how they work in our body in very easy to understand manner. The book explains clearly how metabolism works, why what we eat can contribute both to health and disease, how to optimize our immune system, ways to restore our health. He explains the biochemistry of food, their interaction and effects on our internal organs at the cellular level that is easy for lay people to understand. The book focuses on preventive measures that do not require sacrificing our food preferences. It does emphasize to eat the food we like in moderation. It approaches FOOD AS MEDICINE, and how food can promote angiogenesis which can have both positive and negative effects on our body, how regeneration via stem cells work in our body, how the microbiome in out gut defend for our health, how to protect our fragile DNA, how our immune system works, and ways we can do within our control to protect ourselves from cancer. I never understand how ‘mitochondria’ works until I read his books. It has list of foods that apply to the five concepts that impact our defense system and how food can be used to fight fat and protect from cancer: Angiogenesis, Regeneration, Microbiome, DNA protection, and Immunity. It shows readers how to plan their diet, and it has recipe ideas. Dr. Li introduces the “MediterAsian diet,” and why Standard American Diet promotes diseases.I highly recommend reading both of his books: Eat To Beat Disease and Eat To Beat Your Diet.Imagine when majority of us can use food as medicine, choose food wisely, eat in moderation, we will have prevented many preventable diseases that is costing our health system mega-billions, and jacking up our health insurance irredeemably, outrageously high! Dr. Li has made it easier to eat healthy and prevent illnesses. It’s not easy to change dietary habit, but Dr. Li’s diet approach is very flexible. And, we can certainly teach children how to eat healthy and prevent diseases that are within our control, and nurture healthier future generations.

Empowering, Practical, and Science-Driven
nutrition book — it’s a guide to understanding how our bodies naturally fight illness and how we can support those defenses through what we eat. Dr. William Li breaks down complex science into clear, actionable advice, showing how specific foods can activate healing systems like immunity, regeneration, and microbiome balance. It’s not about fear or restriction — it’s about knowledge and empowerment. I’ve gifted this book to several people facing health challenges, and it’s given them hope and practical tools to feel stronger and more in control.

Good and Sensible Advice
I read this book because I wanted advice on increasing my metabolism, and ultimately weight loss. There were times during the day when I felt sluggish and even found myself taking an afternoon nap. The information Dr. Li gives in this book is nothing really new, but it focuses on types of foods that increase metabolism and boost the fat burning process. The chapters on fat and types of body fat were fascinating to read. Dr. Li encourages a Mediterranean and Asian way of eating for optimal health. One big thing I took away from Eat to Beat Your Diet is the importance of gut health to your overall wellbeing. I am already following a calorie restricted diet, but as a result of reading this book, I have added more gut friendly foods. Dr. Li sites a lot of medical studies, some that were not really all that impressive to me, and he also repeats or labors on certain points. I think the book could have been condensed in this respect as I found myself skimming over those parts. The bottom line is, eat cleanly, avoid processed, fried or sugary foods, and cut out the booze.
