Reasonable Quality Radio Controlled Watch
This recent purchase of a Tavistock & Jones Men's Radio Controlled watch had its good and bad points. The watch itself is fine, it came with an excellent Large Print Instruction Manual which is easy to read, and straight forward. Keeping to the instructions, I found it easy to adjust, you simply press the buttonnext to 2pm for about 3 seconds and the watch picks up the signal from Anthorn in Cumbria, or thetransmitter nearest to where you are in the world. My watch took about 4 minutes to set itself.Once set, the speaking or talking mode will click in and you can simply press the button at 2pm for thespoken time which has a mans voice speaking standard English. The watch also sets itself for BST andhas an alarm function, and hourly chime, which you can turn on/off. The watch runs on a CR2032 lithiumbattery. The downside of this watch is that the battery might not have much of a life-span. The Instructions state"Your watch has been fitted with a test demonstration battery. This may need replacing or be running lowwhen you start to use the watch". Every other battery operated watch that I have ever purchased has hada battery that lasts several years. Surely it would not break the bank to have installed a long life batterywith every watch? Only time will tell how long this one lasts!Apart from that, I quite like the product, the talking aspect is of help for those with poor vision or in my casesimply to check the time at night or when in poor light.

Crisp sounding watch
A nice big watch face plus the sound quality is clear. Instructions on how to set it up are easy to follow.

My blind father-in-law uses this constantly, but buy two!
My father-in-law is registered blind and cannot read braille so a talking clock or watch is an absolute must for him. The fact that it is also radio controlled and so sets itself is brilliant. The only downside is that when the batteries are low the talking stops. For this reason my father-in-law has more than one watch, so if we can't get to him to change the battery (we live 100 miles away), he's never without the means of telling the time.It is a bit awkward to change the battery - you couldn't do it if you are blind, and it's a bit fiddly if you're sighted as there is a particular procedure to follow, but once you've done it then it should be pretty easy the second time. The watch defaults to factory settings, but as soon as it picks up a radio signal it adjusts itself to the correct time and date setting, so don't be tempted to manually adjust the hands! You set the watch hands to 12 o'clock and it corrects from there, so if you've manually adjusted then it takes the adjustment as being 12 o'clock and you'll have to manually adjust it back to the correct time, however, the voice always gives the correct time!A good and useful product which I would recommend to anyone with visual impairment. But it would be nice if they could make a ladies version.

Good watch but hard to see
Good job, easy to use but the hands and numbers are difficult to see with bad eyesight.

This is really good. I used to have a Casio radio watch so I knew what a great feature radio control is. The watch always tells the correct time. The voice is male and it does sound a little robotic. If you are not hard of hearing, the voice is at a good volume, without being too loud. It's simple, just press the A button, beside the number 2 and this watch will tell you the time.It was super easy to set up. There is a large font leaflet that explains everything. I pressed the A button until the second hand reached and stopped at 12. Leave it to do its thing and then the watch is updated and all the hands will birl round until it is at the correct time. It really is as simple as that.I bought the watch because my eyes are not as good as they used to be. It's easier to hear the time rather than read the time. If I am awake during the night, I can hear the correct time without opening my eyes.On the downside, the strap is very short, something a lot of reviewers have commentated on. I have mine set with only one hole to go. It would be a shame if you bought this and ended up buying a new strap for it. The makers should seriously think about a longer strap. I've knocked off a star because of the short length. I wouldn't recommend wearing this in the shower. It says it's water resistant but I wouldn't take the chance. There are four holes on the back of the watch for the loud speaker. You can eliminate the risk of water damage by simply removing the watch first. All in all, I'm pleased with my purchase. It is ideal for those with poor vision. The real selling point is that the voice tells you the most accurate time there is.
