This well-organised, exhaustively-researched and beautifully-illustrated book is one of those rare delights which does more than it says on the tin.Anyone expecting a train-spotterish grind through the history of Britain’s first international motor-show will be disappointed. The author gives us much more, using Earls Court as a prism through which to see the Golden Age of the British motor industry from zenith to nadir.The volume is divided as one might expect, with the early history of the Show from 1887-39 and the post-war story proceeding by decades until the change of venue to Birmingham’s NEC in 1977.We never want for detail; the author leaves no question unanswered but never lets us get bogged down, presenting his evident love of his subject with a deft touch.Altogether, a perfect gift for anyone interested in the hey-day of British motoring, though the lovingly-curated selection of colour and black-and-white plates are sure to raise a smile with any non-petrolhead who lived through the 50s, 60s or 70s.A great way to spend an afternoon.

Great book encapsulating post war Britain and the motor industry. I certainly recommend this book.

Nice book but not particularly detailed and so perhaps a little expensive for what it is.

Very interesting book which brings back memories of the British automobile world of the second half of the 20th century. Authorititive on the venue and the industry. Better than I expected. Worth it.

An excellent (and rare) tribute to the heady days of Earls Court....with a good mix of colour, black and white photos, period artwork and 'behind the scenes' stories, etc., together with detail history of the (then new) model unveils. What great memories of less complex but somehow more exciting times.
