The Piano Book: Buying & Owning a New or Used Piano

I have little to add to what other reviewers said about this book: it is a very precise, useful resource for everyone who is going to buy a new or used piano, or wants to make his or her piano last as long as possible. Although the book is well written, reading it is not always easy: the author goes into technical details a lot; on the other hand, the technology of a piano IS difficult, and, as the author himself frankly says, most pianists know little or nothing about the instrument they play. The only real flaw I noticed is the fact that the book reflects solely the American market. I live in Italy, I am going to buy a used grand, so I am visiting shops and trying as many pianos as I can, but occasionaloly I run into pianos that aren't even mentioned in the book just because they are not sold in the USA. Hopefully, a new edition will aim higher and take into account the world market.

Informative but nothing I didn't already know

The book on learning how a piano works and the different models made over the centuries. A really good guide for choosing a Piano, new or used.

Buying a used piano

Really worth the investment when you consider the cost of a piano. I read the book in a week. Some extremely useful information including caring for your piano and tuning routines. The latest version is about 10 years old so some of the newer manufacturers are not yet mentioned. However, the book gave me some excellent advice on buying tips and strategies.
