Surprisingly useful
I ordered this for a Japanese salad recipe I wanted to try. In appearance, the dried Wakami seaweed resembles Gunpowder tea, if you are familiar with that - pieces of the seaweed are rolled up into tight little balls the size of ball bearings. When you pour boiling water over them they unravel rapidly and expand massively in size. It's easy to soak more than you actually need. I've since found another use for this seaweed. It's nice added to rice, along with redcurrants. 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of the dried seaweed should be plenty, depending on how much rice you will be using. Soak it, and then stir it in. The redcurrants add a fruity tart flavour, which contrasts nicely with the seaweed.

Deceptive little sea monsters
I've ordered this wakame many times now. Delivery is normally before date and is packed well.As for the wakame itself, it seems to be of good quality and if like me, you love the taste of seaweed, I find this goes great with almost everything. If you are dubious as to whether you'd like the taste of seaweed but want to try, I think this is a fairly gentle way to start as it's not over powering, like some other seaweeds can be for some. The texture is silky and has bite. It doesn't disintegrate like some other seaweeds. If you've never use wakame before - a few tips:1) a little goes a long way. When I first got the packet I thought it was tiny and would only last a couple of meals! But these tiny dehydrated bits of seaweed swell up into huge sea monsters. I made the mistake of adding the amount I *thought* was enough into my first meal. 5 minutes later my meal looked like a swamp! Good job I like seaweed. Just a small pinch is enough for miso soup. Large pinch for wakame salad.2) It says to hydrate with cold water, but using warm water is much faster. Cold water takes about 15 to 20 mins to reach full size. Warm water about 2 to 5 mins.3) Wakame isn't just for miso soup and seaweed salad. I use it to make laverbread when there is no laver to be picked in the winter months. I also make veggie burgers with it: Oats, ginger, garlic, soya sauce, spring onions, dash of tahini and wakame (half blended, other half left whole), all mixed together with a bit of water to shape into patties and fried/baked in coconut oil, DELICIOUS!4) I've found some batches are saltier than others, so you may want to taste before adding salt into your meal.

I can't fault this product in any way. It ...
I can't fault this product in any way. It tastes right, it grows and grows when I add water. It's incredibly cheap compared to other brands so where's the catch? It's a product of China and that is probably a clue. Can the quality control be guaranteed? Where was this seaweed harvested? For all I know this could be harvested in polluted waters, I could be slowly ingesting mercury or some other nasty chemical. That's probably why I am prepared to pay a little more in future for a known brand.
