Everything about it is just stunning.
I remember pouring over this book as a child, in school. The artwork just took my breath away, I couldn't believe that I was looking at illustrations rather than photographs & the story is just beautiful. Now, 20 years later, I have bought it for my daughter and I really hope that she loves it as much as I did.I wish I could experience the magic and wonder all over again although I am blessed to be able to see my daughter experience it as she grows. She's far too young to read and appreciate it just yet as she's only 8 months old but I was so scared that I'd forget about it as time goes by, that I bought it for her already and will keep it safe until she's ready to fall in love with it.Would highly recommend this to anyone, if you've never seen this book, you are really missing out.

NOSTALGIA BY THE BUCKET-LOAD!
It's clearly a book written for kids, yet an EXTREMELY nostalgic and 'atmospheric' set of illustrations... The book carries the name of a previous owner.Although now in my mid-seventies, I shall nevertheless treasure this.

Beautiful book
It’s a beautiful book with gorgeous pictures and a lovely story. No issues with the delivery. Book was in a good condition. Sometimes second hand books can smell bit musty. No such issues with this book.

Wonderful illustrations, slightly under developed story
The illustrations really are as wonderful as others describe here, with a dream-like quality perfectly suited to bedtime reading. The passages are a good length for that transition between shorter and longer stories, with nice, descriptive language. However, I was left with the feeling that the overall story and the characters within could have been developed slightly (hence 4 instead of 5 stars) - a little more background around Lilly's grandmother and uncle Frederick for example, and a suggestion as to why he acts in the way he does. Although the story is lovely, I couldn't help but feel something is missing, particularly in the rather abrupt ending - perfectly illustrated by the fact that, at the end of the first reading, my 4 year old turned to me and said "Is that the end, Daddy?". Nonetheless we have read it several times since and he enjoys it greatly, so perhaps that should be enough - however both myself and my wife are very invested in reading time with our boys and therefore quite critical of children's literature.
