Review: Best Adult piano tutor book I know, with helpful CD - Pam takes a total adult / older teen beginner through the stages needed to play with confidence. She gives all the info you need for self-study, and you learn to read music, painlessly, as you go. The aural support with the CD helps hugely. Well laid out, thorough, and with a very useful CD. You can work through the levels from scratch, or you can dive into where you probably left off when you were eight. Clear format. Enjoyable tunes which progress you through the stages of learning. As a piano teacher, I often use this as a tutor for adult beginners, who are motivated to go off and practise. The early stages are more enjoyable than most tutors, due to the CD backings and nice selection of tunes. Great help for practising timing etc. Pam's light touch is a breath of fresh air. The pieces become progressively harder, as you would expect, culminating in some fairly challenging and fun pieces towards the end. This book will start you off gently, and take you thoroughly to the stage where you can play these later pieces. But of course....you have to practise. [I use Pam's other piano books a great deal for my students of all ages. Go and check out all her books of collected piano pieces. I first began to use her books for teaching, with the Jazzin About series. The Easy Jazzin About appeals to youngsters who want to branch out from standard music curriculum, and learn about new rhythms and various contemporary styles. This often injects a new enthusiasm for the student.] This tutor thoroughly prepares any dedicated newbie pianist, and her other series of tune books will carry you onto greater things. Highly recommended [from a teacher of 25 years experience]. Review: Excellent book, highly recommended - I purchased this book at the beginning of August 2012 as I've always wanted to play the piano. I had lessons over 40 years ago, but decided back then it wasn't for me, much to the disappointment of my late mother who played the piano beautifully. So, when a friend's daughter's keyboard came up for sale, I bought it and sought out a self-teaching book, and having read through the reviews, choose Pam's I've worked through the book, pretty much bit by bit mastering and practicing the pieces which become increasingly complex and more challenging as you go on. Like anything that's worthwhile, you have to work at it and be prepared to practice regularly. One of my goal's was to learn how to play some of my piano favourites, including I Giorni, from Ludovico Einaudi along with a number of other pieces from his Island's album. I also wanted a number of pieces from Phil Coulter's classic hits - eg, Steal Away, The Old Man and so on. Anyway, in January this year, I achieved my goals and can now play these pieces. I'm working now on some new pieces. I'd promised myself if I did succeed, I'd buy myself a better piano, and recently purchased a Yamaha P35 electric Piano which really is a joy to play and listen to. I can highly recommend Pam's book - But, and here's the but, you really have to be prepared to sit down and put the time into practice, give your fingers time to learn to stretch and also learn how to really listen to music. Not just passive listening, but really listen to the rhythm and pace. I've still a long way to go as I want to keep improving. I've got some more advanced books now, but I must say none of them have the friendly feel that Pam's had. Many thanks, Pam for a wonderful book, delightful instructions and helpful advice.

Super book for beginning
I have been learning Piano for 9 months now and about half way through this book. Great book for teaching you the basics with some very well known songs in it as well as ones written just for the book I believe. Quite surprised what I can play at this point already. The only thing I dont like it the CD that comes with the book tends to have other instruments accompanying the piano. It would be better I believe if it was just the piano so you can here the dynamics of the songs a little more clearly.

Very good for adult beginners!
I thoroughly recommend this book. I'm retired now and decided it was time to learn to read music and play piano after playing guitars in bands for years. I got a piano teacher and she recommended this book and we use it as the main teaching book, I understand that it is very popular choice of piano teachers for adult beginners. I'm now three-quarters of the way through it. It is very well set out and the order/sequence of learning modules is very helpful. After four months I can now read music and will take Grade1 theory in the next few weeks. I'm not ready to do Grade1 practical/playing yet but well on the way.

I love everything about this book. After every unit I treat myself with Recommended Listening. Money well spent. If you are buying digital version of this book, like I did, then you can download the CD content from the website that you would follow on QR code in the book. Have fun and enjoy the music!

Complete waste of money. I downloaded the mp4 files from the website. But even those like the book itself are very difficult to use. Strongly recommend using apps or online videos instead
