Sailor 11-1503-342 Professional Shoulder Gear Fountain Pen, Slim Mini, Gold, Medium Point, Night Blue

First, yes this is a genuine Sailor Pro Mini (newer variant — updated 2022-present logo, no posting threads, simple white box). This is about 2/3rds the price you’ll pay from a North American retailer so it’s a fantastic deal if you’re willing to forego the safety of a stateside retailer. The Pen: It’s a Sailor, it’s as “smooth” as a Sailor meaning it’s not, it more like writing with a finely sharpened graphite pencil. It’s a Medium Fine 14kt gold nib which is somewhere between a western Extra Fine and Fine. No real flex in the nib as expected. Grip section should be interchangeable with a Pro Gear Slim if you’d like. Your ink situation is limited to Sailor cartridges (which you can empty and syringe fill different ink into) or Sailor does offer a mini converter that is sold separately. I don’t recall if this pen came with the usual pair of Sailor Black ink cartridges or not. It’s feels great in my hands (men’s medium to large glove size), you do have to post it for it to be long enough. It’s the perfect pocket, placket or collar carry. I’m not worried about it leaking or falling off my shirt since it’s fairly lightweight. A great alternative to other similarly sized pocket pens and it has a gold nib! The color is a dusty greyish-blue that matches nicely with Sailor Souboku nano pigment ink. This is my EDC pen and I love the form factor!

The descriptions says medium nib, however this is not a medium nib. It’s a medium-fine nib. But it writes beautifully. I’m so impressed with the writing despite it being such a fine nib. I’m usually gravitating towards medium nibs, but despite this Medium-Fine nib writing more like a Fine nib, I’m enjoying writing with it.

Some of you will love the "feedback" that the 14k nibs in the PGS and Profit series Sailor pens display, but I'm not a fan of that feeling. In most cases, the slightly abrasive feeling when writing is easy to fix by carefully polishing the tipping of the nib with 3micron or finer abrasives (though at least one of my PGS has had porosity in the nib tipping, that prevents the nib from ever being totally smooth writing). Aside from that "issue" (issue for me, but as I mentioned, not for all), the pen is made to the usual very high standard that Sailor is renowned for and the pen functions flawlessly, with a great cap seal and excellent ergonomics for such a small pen. For me, this is a 5 star pen, with a 3 star nib... I only wish I'd managed to snag one of the first generation versions that had a threaded barrel base, for even more secure cap posting.

You really cannot go wrong with a Sailor pen. I own a few-they are a true pleasure to write with. I am a sucker for pocket pens, and this little one will fit great with my notebook or in my purse. No problems with the seller, it arrived as quickly as advertised.

Great deal on genuine Sailor. Medium fine tip 14k in a true dusty rose/gold accented resin body. Two black ink cartridges included but no converter - fyi the Sailor mini converter will work. Arrived in original box and has tag. Forgive the cookie cutter as a display stand, it’s all I had to hand at the time! Cap is threaded, contrary to descriptions I found elsewhere, and posts nicely. Oh, and Medium fine nib, contrary to description posted here! The whole line of this particular model/run (models starting 11-1503-) only comes in medium fine as far as I can tell on the Sailor site - so know that all of the other colors for sale on Amazon from Amazon Japan have the same misleading medium nib description, fyi.
