Incredibly good value. Great on strats and Les Pauls too.
This has only been on my pedal board for a few hours now but I can't see it being ousted any time soon. So, apart from rating its longevity, I have to give it 5 stars. I cannot think of a single thing that I wish it could do that it can't. And for under £19.00 I'd have to be a monster to give this pedal anything but a five star review. I cannot afford to go down the boutique pedal route or even to buy an upmarket amp so I've tried a host of cheap-end pedals in an attempt to create a sound that I like and by the time I've lived with them for a couple of hours I've regretted spending the piffling amount on them that I have. The last disaster was the Digitech Screamin' Blues which just gave me fizz and noise. So, my set up is a parts built strat type guitar into a chain of Boss Dynamic wah, Boss CS3 compressor, Sound City distortion pedal and an 80's Arion digital delay sampler pedal fed into a 70's Tokai solid state 30 watt amp (so not for me the beautiful experience of an 'on the edge of breakup' valve amp I'm afraid). And that's why I'm so impressed with the Joyo overdrive. It doesn't fight with my setup, just adding smooth definition at low gain settings with a nice bit of compression and sustain. It's so nice that I've even stopped using my Boss compressor pedal a lot for the first time so that I can enjoy the nice responsive overdrive of the Joyo. There's only three knobs to toy with and they are child's play to use giving just the right amount of tone control over my single coils. The Screamin' Blues seemed very bright and only seemed to like my Les Paul's humbuckers but the Joyo seems to be more of a mid boost natured beast with enough tone adjustment to sit nicely both with the 'buckers and the single coils. When pushed into ultra gain with some treble rolled down the sustain is very impressive for a simple overdrive pedal and when I kick in the compressor and/or the distortion pedal too it sings away in a lovely fashion. Its not too fussy about it's position in the effects chain either, before or after distortion are both great fun and after the Boss wah pedal is excellent as it lets me tone down the rather trebly nature of that pedal with it's concomitant lack of volume level control. All in all it has all the makings of an invaluable tone and boost tool, built to last in its all metal housing and solid knobs and button. The jack inputs seem really firm too. If you need an overdrive on half a shoestring that can give you anything from snooker theme vintage breakup to ZZ Toppish fizzle you could seemingly do no better than this pedal. Stacked with a distortion pedal and compression too you'll quickly find yourself tempted into Frippertronics. I'm not really sure what spending any more money on a drive would actually do for me before spending hundreds (thousands?!) on a gorgeous valve amp. This pedal should be great for everyone. It's a lover not a fighter.

Fantastic sound, great price.
My first "real" pedal as such, and Im very happy. I play a realtively high gain blues sort of tone 90% of the time and this pedal nails that kind of vibe easily, I use it on the drive channel of my amp on rwaltively low settings for drive and volume, it adds to the tone rather than colouring with its own sound, which I think is great for this price, Ive easily and very happily played Bonamassa, Gary Moore and even Van Halen using this pedal, its very versatile considering, build quality is great very sturdy metal casing and switch and the pots feel nice and solid , even though its "true bypass" there is a slight differerence to the sound when its plugged in and turned off to when its not in the signal chain but in no way drastically or negatively, it even cleans up nicely enabling alightly crunchy marshall esque clean sounds even using high output pickups and a drive sound to beiin with. For the price per enjoyment factor I cant reccomend this enough!

This is a perfectly good pedal with a nice sound
This is a perfectly good pedal with a nice sound, but not for me. I found that even with the drive turned all the way down, it brought a little too much gain to my sound, and the tone wasn't as responsive to picking dynamics as I would have liked. I also found that when on, it took just a little bit of the low end of my tone away. Probably ideal for a natural rock sound, but maybe a little too much if you want to play smooth blues. Still, noise free and well made, certainly worth trying.

Inexpensive but not cheap !
I've played the guitar on and off for some years now and when I found a renewed interest in it yet again I decided I needed a new overdrive pedal . I've had Boss pedals over the years and found them to be pretty good but I was looking for something a little less expensive in the run up to Christmas . I found the Joyo on Amazon and thought it was the right price so decided to chance my arm . To be honest I wasn't expecting too much as it is pretty cheap for an overdrive but I was pleasantly surprised to say the least . What a little gem this is , the tones you can get out of it are really good . From warm slightly overdriven to a real screamer . I got the AC DC sound I love out of it so as far as I was concerned that was it sold !! It is also a true bypass so that it doesn't suck all of your tone . This little pedal is perfect for beginners , those on a budget or just plain old bargain hunters !!! I'd have no problems gigging with it and for the price a great bit of kit . Oh yeah it arrived really quickly too .

I waited a few months before rating this pedal. I finally feel comfortable enough to say that it is an excellent overdrive pedal. It gets rave reviews because it sounds good. It claims to be a clone of an Ibanez TS808 and to sound like it. I must agree that it sounds good and sound wise approximates the legendary TS808. It is well made and seems sturdy. The only weakness that I can see with a pedal like this is the low quality ribbon cable that connects the switch PCB to the main PCB. The low quality ribbon cable is lightly soldered and can easily break. It is held in place with some type of silicon or epoxy. But overall the parts it is made from are of good quality and the construction method is solid. The casing is metal and seems strong enough. The main thing is the sound and it sounds like pedals that are six times more expensive. This is where it shines, in the sound and price. This pedal will stay on my pedalboard and I do not see any reason why to buy a more expensive overdrive, when this pedal sounds so good. Get it, but make sure that you get it from a vendor that backs up their products. Many Chinese pedals tend to suffer from quality consistency and while many great pedals get through, some bad ones also get through. I am speaking from experience since I have purchased Joyo pedals that were faulty from new and had to return them, but this is not always the case and when you get a good one it is a keeper. If the Chinese pedal companies improve their quality consistency they will be extremely successful with their clones. I recommend this pedal.

Just receive the pedal today and On initial test it sounds amazing. I did not want to go with the Ibanez model, seeing that it is over twice the price of this and doesn't seem to be true bypass. Tested this pedal on a Mesa Boogie dual rectifier, killer sound! Just the pedal I have been looking for and at the right price. The casing of the pedal is similar to MXR pedals. A side-by-side comparison of this pedal versus the Ibanez on YouTube won myself over for the Joyo pedal. a review on durability will be done in one Year's time.
