Finish Line Ceramic Grease 1lb Tub

So, I spent some time reading about grease, far more than any normal person should, and learned a few things. For the most part, there are no better greases than Industrial and Automotive grease. They have been refined and improved for countless years and produce very good quality greases. There are a lot of specialty greases too, but are they any better?I have an old set of Shimano Deore hubs from my Kona Process that are noisy and have seen better days, so I decided to experiment using three greases that I have available.Phil Wood: I have used Phil’s exclusively for 25+ years on everything with very good results and no complaints.76 Dynalife GC-LB #2 EP Lithium Complex: I use this on RC helicopters bearings as it holds up very well and stays inside the bearings with little to no fly-out under high RPMs.Finish Line Ceramic: Just purchased it.I tore down, cleaned and repacked the hubs with each grease, my results below. Your results may vary.Phil: Spins freely but still very noisy. I can hear and feel roughness in the bearings.76 Dynalife: A little more resistance that the Phil grease and quite a bit smoother. Better that the Phil’s grease on worn bearings but still sounding noisy and rough.Finish Line Ceramic: More resistance that the other two greases but they run very quiet, almost like new. Put them under load and spun them for a while. A small amount seeped through the seals and they seemed to loosen up a bit. Still very quiet and smooth.My verdict: With new or unworn bearings, both the Phil and Dynalife would be a good option with the Dynalife being bit smoother. With new OR worn bearings, the Finish Line Ceramic is VERY good. You can’t go wrong with this grease, it does what they claim. I recently rebuilt the pedals on my Kona using Phil’s grease. I will rebuild the ones on my Specialized with Finish Line and see how they feel. They have many, many thousands of miles on them since the last rebuild.

I only started using it yesterday but it seems to be working very well. I used it on a bolt action and it make the sliding much smoother. I will update if something goes wrong but for now it is awesome. Perfect consistency for my application.

Works just as good as Archoil AR8300. Buy cheaper bearings get Swiss results in a week. I clean/degrease my bearings then do a less than 25% fill using this ceramic grease. If a circular bearing was a wall clock you’d apply 15 minutes or less of grease. For a few minutes after application it will feel a little sluggish or slow. Within a few hours you’re rolling smooth. After a week of “break-in” you realize this stuff is better than light oils. It does have a slight “break-in” period, but is well worth it.

Rolls really smooth. Do yourself a favor and buy a pack of dental syringes. That way you don't waste any during the instalation process and can also use the rest to feed plant nutrients.Will update back to see how long it lasts.

As someone who knows nothing about the grease needed for bikes, I researched and came up with this. I was able to purchase a small tube which was easy to apply and I could put it on with getting my hands all greasy. A small tube seems to be able to go a long way so I am glad I could buy a smaller quantity. I was worried that it might separate with the heat we were having, but it didn’t. All in all, this seems to be a very good product, but I don’t know much about other alternatives - it did the job and I didn’t have to worry about it getting all over the place, so that’s a win in my book and reapplication if/when needed will be easy.

There are cheaper greases that will work in your bikes. Do you really need grease with a ceramic additive? Well, it is certainly slippery, and whether or not you buy a small grease gun, a 1 lb can will probably last you for years. Bikes generally don't take a lot of grease.By the same token, extra slippery grease makes my bike that much happier, so I'm a satisfied customer. If you don't care so much about your bikes, I promise that the (much cheaper) automotive grease at your local car parts store will still lube your bike (just don't get lithium-based grease, as there is some concern about that combination with some bike materials.) If this is too much trouble, try a jar of petroleum jelly aka vaseline.I think, but am not sure, that bike greases are a little thinner than automotive grease. The parts are smaller, the weight on bearings is smaller, and the main concern is low friction, not load bearing. Hence the ceramic grease, a high end product designed for high end bikes--and yours and mine.BTW, while greases are different colors, this has no impact on function. This one is whitish/translucent, no blue tint, green tint, etc.

I use this in a pedal drive system in a kayak. It seems to hold up well. Delivery was quick.

I’m not sure how it did it but after the first ride of greasing the front and rear hub bearings, my new top max speed increased by 2 mph on a fat bike which they’re not known to be fast. Great product and I’ll keep buying more in the future when needed.
