This is my second of these lamps. The first was so good I just had to have another for my bedroom. Both lamps give an incredible amount of light. Using the uplighter gives enough light for a reasonably large living room, I never use my ceiling lights any more! The reading lamp alone is plenty when reading or just needing light in a small area while watching tv. Both lamps are so bright that I rarely need to use either on full power, thank goodness for the dimmer switches! The lamp is well constructed, solid, heavy and looks great! Although sold as an uplighter with a reading lamp, both lamps have glass shades so actually give light in both directions. It is a little fiddly to assemble so be prepared to shout and swear! However this is because of very small screws which are virtually invisible once assembled, which adds to the attractive appearances of the lamp. On this occasion I had a small problem where the dust cover for the main bulb was broken on arrival, although I think this was due to mishandling by the courier. However, I sent an email to the seller and received fantastic customer service! A reply within a couple of hours asking for more details of the damaged part and then a replacement sent immediately the same day. Could not fault the seller in the least! Cannot recommend the lamp or the seller highly enough! (And no I'm not on commission for this review! 😂) just a very satisfied customer!

I have offset ceiling lights and found it difficult to light the area where the lamp now is. I had one of these already in a different part of the room and loved the amount of light it gives so I purchased this one. I love it. I found it tricky assembling at the bit where you attach the light itself to the base, it is much easier with two people. This part took the longest as the base plate does slip when you try to site the stems into the holes. I ended up having to put the base on my sofa resting the light end on the floor and did battle with it a bit.That aside the lamp is great, its a great colour, so practical using the dimmer as they are in the middle of the stem and really accessible. the light it gives off is great and I like the little reading lamp part as it moves and angles really well. It was a really good price compared to what I paid in the shops for my first one.The product arrived well within the time frame. I would buy this product whenever you have a limited space to house the lamp and need to vary the amount of light as it ranges from ambient low to really bright - you choose the level.Highly recommend it.

To better control the light level in my living room, I wanted a new dimmer light. I went for the "antique" model, hoping it would go with the other antique brass fittings in the room. Luckily, it is as close to antique brass as I can tell. The unit is very stable, with a heavy rubber foot holding it at the base. The design is very aesthetic, with everything screwing together at the edges; the only unnecessary seam I can see is on the controller unit (mounted half way up), which is in two pieces screwed together. The only two visible screws are on the back of the controller unit. There are separate controls for the level of the main light and dimmer light. Both lights have a frosted glass window on the reverse side to allow diffused light. The upright poles do seem to twist easily. The main light has a 220-240V 118mm halogen light (energy category C) which offers 230w (4650lm) for 1000 hours according to the box the bulb comes in. Even though the listing didn't mention it, the unit is self-assembly as you would expect at this price. It was delivered in a box with the main components assembled and cabled (controller unit fitted on and one of the bulbs installed). The mains cable, which you can't see in the listing picture, runs right through the cable and out of the base, and must be pulled through various tubing to close it up. Assembly requires the Alan key and spanner provided. Instructions are slightly tricky; the nuts and washers hold the unit together right at the base, under the rubber foot and metal cover while the picture shows only one layer; I thought they had assembled it wrongly and ended up taking off the plug, which broke and had to be replaced (luckily I had a spare plug; NB you need to transfer the fuse as it uses a non-standard 3A fuse). The instructions talked of a worm gear to hold the cable to the base, but there was no such tapped hole. This is a good product for the price and it definitely does what it is supposed to.

The assembly Instructions were woefully inadequate. The lamp arrived without bulbs, but to add to the fun, the assembly was slightly harder than trying to poke butter up an angry porcupine's bottom with a hot needle. The tolerances on the holes in the base were so tight, that the threaded portion of the supporting rods had to be rotated to get it through the hole, which of course, unscrewed the other end of the rods from their housing in the central portion. In the end, I had to use a file to open up the holes on the base enough to get the wretched thing together. The fitting which connects the supporting rod to the top light, helpfully had a hole, and a little threaded rod to insert it. Unfortunately, there was no corresponding thread on the light fitting bracket, so it was impossible to attach it. I gave up and used a rivet. The dimmer control switch knobs fall off if you breathe on them, so I had to glue them. If I didn't have a pressing need for the light, I would have sent it back.

When the lamp arrived the glass was broken. A new lamp was very quickly dispatched and it looked great - exactly like one I had purchased previously (although not from this company). However, when I came to use the lamp I was very disappointed. On my other, previously purchased lamp, the top switch controls the top (uplighter) lamp, the bottom switch controls the reading lamp. On this lamp, one switch is the on/off switch for BOTH lights, the other is a dimmer switch for BOTH lights. It really isn't what I wanted, but having already requested (and received) a replacement lamp because of the damage to the first one, I can't be bothered to return this one. It works, it looks fine, but it doesn't do what I wanted it to.

Arrived on time, thanks Amazon, and even though it was in just it's own box with a label stuck on the side it was very well packed Total assembly time was around forty minutes and that included time to get it out of the box, remove all the polythene wrapping, read the instructions and puzzle a bit. It's actually a very sturdy thing with two big bolts that fasten under the heavy base to hold it in place. Looks good, not excellent but then I didn't choose the colour, and does the job. Hardest part of the assembly was getting the two posts through the holes in the base, that took a few attempts, but once they were through it was a doddle to fasten them with the spanner provided. The other problem I had concerned the wiring. In two places, where the wire enters the post at the bottom and exits the post at the top, they have used a white plastic, sort of a top-hat kind of protector to prevent the wire from rubbing against the metal. I puzzled over these for a while trying to work out if they had to be removed. Once I decided that they had to go the assembly proceeded without a hitch. Good news is that the smaller light was already assembled. You will need a screwdriver to tighten the clips that hold the glass guard over the halogen bulb in the uplighter part. You will also need a bit of floor space to lay the pieces out.

Very quick delivery - it arrived the day after it was ordered even with super saver deliver (impressive seeing as it is the Christmas period too). The lamp itself is brilliant - the main lamp is a lot brighter than I was expecting and overall the product looks great. I built it myself, but I can see why people advise having two people to put it together. Other reviews mention a humming, I have yet to experience this (no matter how much it is dimmed). Overall I am very happy with the product. The price here is great too - much, much cheaper than the shops. Edit: I was so happy with this purchase I bought another for another room. This second order unfortunately did hum very loudly when it was dimmed. I returned it as faulty for a new one and the replacement was fine - just as quiet as my first purchase. If yours does hum I suggest you return it as being faulty - there may be a faulty batch. It may also be worth testing it before you build it.
