GREAT lENS

Arguably the best wide angle zoom lens ever made
Along with the other two remaining 'holy trinity' of Nikon Lenses (AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm and AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm), this lens does not disappoint! This particular lens is my favourite out of the three (which is saying something) and produces crystal clear, sharp and beautifully bright rendered images with each shot. Attached to my Nikon D800, there are many more 'keepers' after shooting with this amazing lens!Indoor and interior shooting with this lens as an absolute joy, as is landscape and architectural photography. However, these fine optics from Nikon come at a price (a fairly hefty one at that for a wide angle lens) and there are some minor niggles; it's heavy and the protruding parobolic curve and size of the front lens means you cannot use screw on filters of any kind, including a protective UV filter so be very, very careful using this lens when you're out and about. As others have mentioned, there is no vignetting and negligible barrel distortion. It is quite possibly Nikon's best produced lens and I am one very proud and happy owner.Expensive? Sure!Indispensable - definitely.Forget all other wide angles - this is the one!Thoroughly recommended.

World Class Optics – But make sure you get a good copy!
After reading many reviews and deliberating which wide-angle lens to buy I decided on the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8. My first copy had a slight auto-focus problem where it would occasionally slightly miss the optimum focus point on my D800; it was 99% perfect but that 1% bothered me and so I asked Amazon for a replacement. Amazon’s response was top notch: I asked for a replacement on the Saturday evening and the replacement arrive on Monday morning. I’m glad that I ordered from Amazon’s own warehouse stock. The replacement was 100% perfect and the image quality is breath-taking, very sharp wide open at f/2.8. What really amazes me is how good this lens is at the widest end of 14mm and I can appreciate for myself why photographers sing and dance about this lens; it’s optics are in my view truly World Class and it’s made in Japan. It’s expensive, yes and you can't attach a protective filter to the front, that’s true, but the image quality is simply stunning, only make sure that you receive a good copy, if it isn’t get it replaced straight away. I’m now one very happy owner of this stellar lens.

The penicillin of lenses. Cures all ills!
Very versatile and now available cheaper now that the "Z" version has arrived. Perhaps a slightly lower contrast than the 24 1.4 and 35 1.4 primes I use but fine in less bright light. Can do so much with it. Easy ductile handling; I prefer to manually focus mine using the D850 focus comfirmation bottom left of the finder and this works fine. Sharp across the frame.

Very sharp even at the edges. But much larger and heavier than the Sigma lens it replaces for me.
May be very sharp but barrel distortion is worse the my previous Sigma 12 - 24mm lens. However one or two clicks in Lightroom, Lens Corrections, Profile settings and it is gone. Lightroom has a built in profile for this lens. The lens must have been designed with this in mind and this is how they can make it so much sharper. If you dont have Lightroom then this will be a problem hence only 4 stars.

STILL THE GREATEST WIDE-ANGLE ZOOM
Legionary Lens and desirable so. Unsurpassed image quality and build quality at a great price.

I put it on the line of Nikkor's best glass. This is the case when you have to open your wallet for having great stuff! That's it!Sharpness and colours it delivers are great (if not amazing)! This is such an interesting lens - not really a fisheye and not really a 'normal' lens. Something in between. But this is what makes it very attractive (at least for me) since it brings additional chance for creativity. After you put files on distortion correction they become flattened and files looks like 'normal' ones, but with broader perspective.I keep away from giving any kind of recommendations, but for one I am sure - this will be the last peace of glass what I will sell out if hard times will come over!Roger? :)

The focus system did not work, it was impossible to get any part of the image sharp.
