Is the rolling band the fabric type or plastic?

It's nylon type plastic coated. The OP is looking for the old style canvas roller, which were brilliantly effective. This is not. Plastic coated may be more hygienic, but you need the friction the canvas blinds had to roll a tight smoke.

i am new to this machine. The cigs are coming out very loose. Is there any way to make them tighter?

Over a couple of days they should get tighter naturally. make sure the papers are parallel, and use a filter as it's easier. Try SMK 6mm Long Filters, they seem to work for me, also reduces the tobacco use, so are quite economical. Hope this helps. John
