This is a fantastic book for someone who wants to have a quick introduction to the giants of giants of Painting history. It is a joyful reading.

This is a fabulous reference book, bought for my daughter who is doing GCSE art. We have several books in the "50" series and they are always good. Cleary presented, timelines to show context in terms of world affairs, biographical information, and some useful interesting titbits - such as Turner strapped himself to the mast of a ship in a storm to "capture" the feeling of the storm ...! Great book.

this was not an expensive book so I guess I could not expect to receive too much in the way of facts and beautiful paintings. however, if one is interested in outline facts about a number of well known artists plus examples of their work, this book is sufficient, but not for anyone who wants to delve further into the history of art and artists.

I was most pleased to recieve this introduction to some of the most famous artists ever. It was easy to read and had exactly the information about these artists that I could digest. Definitely a beginner book but that is where I am at at the moment. I would recommend it to anyone who needs an easy introduction to some of the big artists of our western civilisation.

This Is a good read, very informative . This is a short cut to understanding the natural transition of art and art movements.

Beautiful reproductions of the art selected to illustrate the artists. The authors did an excellent job of selecting the most important artists in the history of Western art. I only had a minor quibble or two with their choices. The articles on each artist were concise and informative. This is an excellent book for anyone who needs a good introduction to art.

Evidently there is some sort of series of these books. I love Hopper❤️ It’s got some great info if you are learning about Art.

Great book to have around and learn or refresh something learned, just by looking at it.

As the title suggests, this book is a very brief introduction to 50 various painters from before the Renaissance to modern day painters. On average, the author devotes 2-3 pages to every artist. The writing is clear and very enjoyable. So if you're looking for a short and fun book to read in order to obtain basic knowledge of the world's most exciting painters, this book will be just great for you.
