The best gift for a nephew's 18th!
I bought a jar of these for my nephew's 18th birthday (among other things - no, I'm not that mean)! Anyway, he likes a challenge, having eaten most of the 'deadly' hot sauces I've bought him before, however he'd never heard of Umeboshi Plums which made it all the more fun. On opening the jar they actually smell really nice, a sort of heavy marinated raisin aroma, however the eating experience was something else. He popped a whole one in and started to chew... his face then went from it's normal shade of pink through various shades of darkening red and his eyes bulged while tears rolled down his cheeks! Safe to say, one plum was all he could manage and I, being the coward that I am, declined to try one myself.Anyway, I understand these are being kept as an after-dinner delicacy for guests now, I just wish I could be there to see the enjoyment. Excellent value!!

Great addition to dishes
These really are an acquired taste but once you have them they are amazing. Great in all sorts of dishes. Eaten on their own could also be a great forfeit style challenge

Not very good quality
I didn't expect the best Umeboshi, but having heard of the company I thought it would at least be reasonable. Unfortunately I must say this is the worst Umeboshi I have tasted, and I've tasted dozens. Very heavily salted with no sense of sweetness at all. Normally with a good Umeboshi you can at least bite on it as well as eat it together with rice. This one however is like putting a ball of salt in the mouth. I won't be buying it again.

Disgusting but down to taste
I bought these so we could try things we have never tried. They are exactly what they say but I don't think my non-Japanese palette appreciates them! All my guests spat them out! 🤣Great fun though watching them squirm.

5/5 with rice
These make for an excellent light breakfast - a small bowl of rice with one of these plums. Take a bit of plum with a spoonful/chopstickfull of rice, the saltiness is well balanced and tastes great. After opening, keep these in the fridge, they will last a few months.Note that you'll find different varieties of Umeboshi on other product listings, they absolutely are not the same. Some tend to be 'mushier' and some are even sweet. These specific ones are the right combination of non-mushy, well put together, and salty.

Lovely
Tart & sour, if you like the Umeboshi plum flavour they are exceptional. I add them to salads or to sauces as I can't eat tomatoes and they raise up the flavour. Great product and you only need 1 or 2 so the cost is spread out.

Suppai !! - very sharp sour taste, that's all I taste.
Other reviewers may disagree, but for me it might be better to have this umeboshi piece when I prepare a Hinomaru bento box ( a bento box containing nothing but white rice with a big umeboshi piece stuck in the middle ). That way I may be able to enjoy this umeboshi little by little while scoffing rice. I wouldn't have it with other okazu dish as the sharp sour taste is so intense that it overpowers everything else. I can finish them alright, but I think I still prefer umebosh made by manufacturers in Japan.
