Functions exactly as I hoped
This might be the greatest thing I have ever purchased for my Christmas village. I just plug my power cord into this outlet then plug it into my house outlet. The remote works well and I no longer have to crawl under the table to plug things in. Some of my village electric cords have a built-in switch in them. I just leave them turned on and control them through this outlet. The remote works through the wall and controls more than one outlet. I recommend this product.

EtekCity Wireless Remote Control Socket - Very Pleased, Will buy again.
Purchased this set for a home project, wiring things up for remote control. Very pleased with it. So much so, I gave it away to a recently bedridden friend for her lamps and fan. She's very happy, and so are we since we're not having to get up to adjust lights. The receivers (the switches themselves) are sturdy units, with a nice 3-prong plug, properly grounded, as they should be. You can fit a receiver into a socket and connect something else to the other socket if it's not too large, the rounded bottom on the receivers is a teensy bit big, crowding the other socket some if you're plugging in something with a wall-wart transformer or the like. No problems at all for the most part, these fit well, and don't sag when a cord is plugged into them. (EtekCity has these short Etekcity 10 Pack Power Extension Cord Cable Strip, 16AWG/13A, UL Listed, 2015 Upgraded Version, Black  extension cords available which would solve any socket crowding issues one might have)There is a small raised button on the side of the 'riser' which allows you to turn the switch on and off manually if you need to, with long presses being used to reprogram which button on the remote it responds to. (The five switches are pre-programmed and labelled to match buttons 1-5 on the remote, but you can change and/or reset the receiver/button matchup any way you desire, even having all five switches be operated from a single button. Well, two... the remote provides an ON and OFF pair for each unit)Being the Geek Girl I am, I immediately voided my warranty and opened one unit, as I desire to also use these switches on the 12VDC lighting systems of my 5th-Wheel trailer. (Not just the 120VAC fixtures) The circuit boards are clean and well soldered, everything is secure... a very good indication of quality. I'm happy! Oh, and a simple relay replacement (12v relay vs the installed 24v version) with a single wire moved, allows me to use these with my 12VDC systems with no other modifications. I've got a remotely controlled everything! (Ask if you would like more information on how to modify these similarly).I've ordered a second set (I gave my first set away, remember? Well.. 4 receivers at least, I kept my guinea pig unit), and may order a third set to be able to cover many/most of the fixtures in my trailer, porch light and area lights, all 12VDC on the rig. (I may modify some and show them around too, The trailer-park I'm in has many fellow geeky tenants!)The remotes respond well, someone else mentioned that they are not 'unique' in their orientation, feeling the same regardless of which way you hold them, kinda a minor thing, as you can easily make them identifiable sight-unseen with a hair-tie, velcro, glue a shirt-button to it, let the dog chew on one end... whatever. Easily fixed. (But in future models, EtekCity... perhaps some ribbing or something on the remote to allow one to feel which end is which?)Being RF (433MHz), you don't have to point the remotes at anything, although I still find myself point-n-click'ing. The range is very good, we're able to annoy my friend by using the second included remote to turn things on & off from the driveway. (I did give her the second remote eventually, as it wasn't as fun annoying her after a bit)The remotes come with batteries in the box, type LR23A, they're about the shape and size of a third of a AAA battery. Pop them in the remotes (one each), and you're up and running. Probably last quite a while, guess I'll know in a few months.Someone asked about 'vampire power'. Well, anything plugged into a socket that has to listen for a wireless signal to operate is going to draw SOME power while idle, but as another person pointed out, the current/wattage draw for these receivers is very, very small. Having had one opened up, they're drawing less than 50 milliAmps (mA) on the 5V rail, which when converted to the original 120VAC wall power, is generally too small to measure when they're idle. Now, when the switch is ON, the relay is drawing current to stay closed and keep your device powered, thus it's drawing 100-300 mA, still at a lower voltage than 120VAC, so the receiver's power usage is trivial in relation to the device it's controlling.I like 'em! I want more! I've also let my home automation / smart home systems learn the remote codes, so I can control these devices from my computers. They're a win/win for me. I plan on using a couple for 120VAC loads, and modifying a couple for 12VDC fixtures. All while having the ability to control any/all with a remote or via my computers. Yay!Would I buy this product again? Yup. Already did.Would I recommend this product? Yup. Already did. Several times, actually. The price is decent, includes five receivers (switches), two remotes with batteries, clear instructions on how to reprogram the buttons/switches if desired, easy to use, easy to install, good construction, small (unobtrusive!) remotes (have you SEEN some of the other similar product lines' remotes?)

Superb Value! 3 Years & Still Working! Don't Use Heaters!
I paired these with my 10 gauge, stage-crew, multi-tap power cable. These remote outlets let me turn off spaces and components that I'm not using to save power... I have a 3-way power tap from dollar tree with a lamp plugged into each main outlet so I can see which room is using electricity... I really like this product but don't make the same mistake I made by trying to run a small space heater on one of these remote outlets! I burned out 1 of my 5 outlets. These are reprogrammable to use the original remote with the "learn" button on the side of the outlet so I can get another outlet that's rated for higher wattage devices like heaters. The ability to turn the whole room off while cozy in bed on a cold night is worth the money! LOL... These are just dumb RF devices, no fancy Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or SpyGals listening in for the latest gossip, but that's just the way I like it! 😉

Major Convenience for Minor Cost
I purchased my first set of 5 outlets in April 2017; just purchased another set. Until my purchase of these in April 2017, I had been using the X-10 remote outlets, which utilizes a central transceiver with a telescoping antenna to transmit requests to the individual outlets. Not entirely happy with the X-10 and its performance (and separate cost of the transceiver, remote control unit, and outlets), I decided on the Etekcity. This purchase includes two remotes and five outlets that are rated at 10 amps, sufficient to handle the overwhelming majority of electrical gadgets that one would wish to control remotely. To me, obvious exclusions (that these outlets could not handle) would be toasters, ovens, microwaves, hair driers, irons, or any appliances that have a high energy demand (in excess of 10 amps/1200 watts on a 120 volt circuit). The remotes utilize A23, 12V. batteries, which I have yet to replace after eight month's continuous use. When needed I purchased Garage Door Opener A23 Battery 12V Special High Capacity 55mAh Same as 23A 23AE L1028 MN21 CELEWELL Brand 6 Count 3 Years Warranty  whose three-year warranty can be extended to lifetime upon completion of a minimal condition. One point of confusion for me is the manufacturer's statement "Strong RF signal works through doors and walls without interfering with other electronics; Operating from as far as 100 ft. in line of sight." RF means radio frequency; in my experience with remotes, "line-of-sight" is normally reserved for IR removes, i.e., remotes that transmit an infrared beam to a receiver. IR remotes must be line-of-sight, i.e., there can be no objects/structures between the remote transmitter and the appliance receiver - e.g., as is the case with most TVs. An RF remote (a transmitter) transmits a signal to the receiver (a radio) and that signal goes through/over/under objects, walls, ceilings, roofs, etc. Thus, the manufacturer's RF/line-of-sight statement seems to me to be a misapplication of terms. The Etekcity units are RF: the transmitter at one end of the house will activate the receiver at the other end of the house, walls or no walls. And that has been my experience and, for me, is the main selling point of these units: no matter where I am, the receivers (outlets) ALWAYS respond to the transmitter (control unit). Always! The units appear to be well built, sturdy, and are easy to program and operate. The remotes can be paired (same buttons control same outlets) or programmed independently, or mixed and matched (the same button on both remotes controls one outlet; one button controls two or more remotes). In other words, there are an infinite number of remote/outlet combinations available. Finally, I would note, as some have mentioned, that the outlet is large enough to partially cover the adjacent receptacle of the standard two-receptacle wall outlet and prevent its use with some plugs. In my experience, the flat, two-pronged, polarized plugs, e.g., the typical lamp or double-insulated plugs (i.e., the plug does not include the "earth" ground pin) are not impeded by the Etekcity outlet. It is only the larger round or triangular plugs with the ground pin that may pose a problem (some do not - depends on the size of the plug). I have one situation where this is an issue that I solved by plugging the outlet into an outlet adapter/splitter that did not block the adjacent receptacle (I plugged the adapter into the wall receptacle, then plugged the Etekcity into the adapter). Yes, it was an added $5.00 cost (for the adapter) but well worth the convenience.Speaking of convenience, I have one of the remotes by my front door: one button controls three lamps - click - and my way through the hall to the living room and kitchen is lit; reading in bed, reach over to the end table and - click - lights out without having to crawl up to the lamp switch. Listening to music piped through the house and the phone rings - click - the radio is off; ditto TV. My entertainment center power strip is plugged into a remote outlet - one click - all are on/off. The possibilities are legion. I now have four remotes and ten receptacles: the receptacles are scattered about the house; I have a remote in the kitchen, den/study, bedroom, and living room. Most convenient especially considering the mix and/or match options of the remotes/receptacles.In lieu of or in addition to WiFi controlled devices, these RF controlled receptacles are great.Ed

Super easy and useful in workshop
I bought these for my garage workshop after installing additional overhead LED lights, as this seemed like a quick and easy way to turn them on without using 4 hard to reach individual pull cords every time. Given there are 2 remotes and 5 outlets, I quickly added 1 outlet to those lights, 1 outlet to an existing light, and 2 outlets to my 2 ShopVacs used for dust collection on tools. The lights are both chained to the same button so all turn on at once, and it was very quick/easy to setup the outlets with corresponding buttons and test them out. These things are amazing, wish I'd done it months ago! I have velcro'd a remote at my table saw and one near the entry door, and can move them around with me if I'm working in a certain area and need to flip a vacuum on/off regularly. All 4 things managed by the remote are in different parts of the garage, but each remote can control them without issues from anywhere in the room, and generally don't need to be pointed in the general direction of the outlet to work. Such a time saver being able to flip on the vacuum just before turning on the table saw, instead of walking across the room every time.I think I could find lots of uses for these around the house (living room lamps, having on at the bedside table, etc) but they were a real revelation in the garage!

***** (5) wanted to test it first, several times, before I reviwed it.
I purchased this product for 2 reasons: 1. was WiFi signals at night and 2. was for Buzz TV. I thought of a timer switch but I wanted us to be able to control the situation. I've read plently of articles on WiFi signals and decided I wanted to reduce the exposure by turning off our WiFi at night. The remotes work very well. Our WiFi is downstairs in our condo and the remote is upstairs by the computer. We just point the remote down, through the concrete floor and push the off button at night and when we go to use the computer we press on and in less than a minute we are in operation. As for the the Buzz TV box, I've read you should turn off the power to it and not leave it on continuosly (just turning it off by the off button is not good enough , you need to unplug it. Well the second remote is with the tv remotes and we just press off to disconnect it from the power supply and don't need to unplug it anymore. we wanted the two remotes as they would be available in different locations. Also the one remote can turn off and on any of the other areas where the plugs have been installed. We are very pleased with the product. Units the 3-5 are avaiable for backup if anything goes wrong with 1 and 2. We had zero problems installing the batteries (which some people said they did - you just need to watch what you are doing - you don't do the square peg in the round hole approach). We also plugged the remote plugs into a surge protector power bars (one is upstairs and one is downstairs) - as several plugs are in each power bar and we just turn off the one item in the power bar eg. WiFi only or Buzz TV and not affect the other plug-ins.

Awesome set, every house needs one of these
These are amazing. Both Remotes control on and off switches for all 5 plugs. The plugs can also be reset and reconfigured to your liking so that way you can have a remote for your downstairs plugs and another for upstairs or basement plugs. Super useful for Lamps and plugs that don't have a switch. I currently have one connected to my Christmas Tree and another outside under a bench for the Christmas lights, the indication is that it is not for outdoor use but I wanted to give it a shot and it has worked well so far.Customer service is absolutely exceptional, they reached out to me the day I got the packaged and asked me if everything arrived correctly and on time. Kudos to these guys.

Works like a Charm
This is a very early review, since I only set them up 30 minutes ago. So far they work exactly as I'd hoped.GLOBAL ON/OFF:I programmed the remote to activate all four lights at once with button #1. So yes, it's possible to have a global on/off for all your lights. Remote buttons #2 through #5 activate each outlet independent of the others.WORKS WITH DIMMERS:Two of the smart outlets have dimmer switches plugged into them, with the lamp outlet then plugged into the dimmer switch, so that is also not a problem.CAN STILL PLUG IN A SECOND PLUG BELOW THE SMART OUTLET:Lastly, while these smart outlets are indeed large, they do not block the second outlet below. Plenty of room to plug in two things into one wall outlet, with one of them being this smart outlet. It just has to be on the top. However, all my outlets are new, so I can't speak to the plug spacing within older wall outlets. If I recall, older outlet boxes have the two outlets closer together than new ones.Overall, everything's working great for now. How they perform in the long run remains to be seen.

These work well but could be awkward to use in some plug sockets because of the size.
I wanted to use this product in various areas where it would be hard to turn something off or on. I've only used 2 of the 5 so far but all works well. The only negative is that, depending on what you're using the other plug for in a standard two plug socket, this gadget may make the second one unusable. For example, you won't be able to plug in something like a night light in the other socket because of the size of the gadget. Also, I have some sockets that are just below some windows and the window trim interferes with being able to use this in that plug. It would be helpful if the part at the back where the large and small prongs are was adjustable as some air freshener plugs are so that you could use this upside down. Otherwise I'm happy with this product.
