I am part Japanese and have eaten rice almost daily my entire life. I have a high-end Zojirushi that i use almost daily. We are empty-nesters now, and I wanted to up my cooking game, so I purchased this. It came well-packed with no damage. The break-in process is a little bit of a pain. I’m trying to keep the glazed part dry prior to using it, which is also a little bit of a pain.Build quality seems good, but this clay earthenware is so it’s relatively delicate and needs to be handled with care or will chip. The sheer mass is impressive, and I think that’s a big reason it cooks rice so well.However, the actual cooking process is pretty easy, and the rice you get out of it is insanely good. Granted, I’m using high-quality rice, but this blows away anything I’ve made with my Zojirushi. The rice was fluffier. Each grain was more evenly cooked. Even the flavor was better. I am ruined; the bar has been raised on what great rice can taste like if cooked with the right tool.

High quality pot and makes really excellent tasting rice!

There are flaws inside and small pieces of glaze is missing. Worry about that will cause glaze to fall off after using it .

Absolutely wonderful donabe. The clay bottom is thick and goes up high on the side like it should. This cooks rice beautifully and I was able to make several fun one pot dishes for 2-3 people at this size. It would probably be too small for more then 3 people. All parts arrived well packed and safe. A must buy anyone who enjoys Japanese style cooking!

As many of the reviews confirmed, pot arrived broken and very poorly packaged for such a fragile item. Don't expect this item to come intact. I took a chance with the good price, and totally regret it now.
