I live in an apartment building that has a large amount of these fist sized birds that will constantly chirp and make babies on your patio. I strapped one of these bad boys to my patio railing and the birds have wholly ignored it. OK to be fair, sometimes they do fly close to it to check it out but it has officially scared off nothing. The plus side is that these paper birds also come with a strip of...holographic plastic? It has a little sticky strip at one end that you can attach to just about anything. Along with the paper bird I also attached one of these strips to the patio ceiling. That strip has saved my patio from birds making babies several inches from my office window.

These are VERY realistic looking and I like the shiny ribbon you can attach to the bottom. I hung these in a fruit tree to keep away a pesky squirrel, hope they work.

These do the job!! Our house and backyard were being destroyed be pigeon droppings; we couldn't even let our kids go outside. We put these in two trees on each side of our yard and one on the side of patio covering. It worked! The birds have left the trees and there has been a significant difference in bird poo. They have even withstood the AZ monsoon. Now due to their thinner paperlike material, they have started to curve a tiny bit due to the sun, but they are still completely intact and the rain didn't affect them. The biggest downside is you can't put them on the roof to deter birds that congregate up there. *Note: we used pipecleaners to attach them securely to branches and nails.
