Well worth the extra cost
I have in the past bought several much cheaper external disc drives which either were faulty from day 1 or failed after a few days. This ASUS drive has been faultless. It did cost considerably more and took longer to deliver (from the US), but has been worth the extra cost and waiting time.

Works very well
Very pleased with this product. Plugged it in and it worked - no problem. I like the way the cable recesses into the DVD player itself. The cable is quite short but I work from a laptop in the armchair, so it does sit nicely on the arm of the chair.

Does NOT work with Macbook Air M2!
The product description is misleading. This DVD drive is not compatible with all Macs, as is suggested. When I connected the drive to my 2022 Macbook Air M2, straight into the USB-C port, the light on the USB C lead did not turn on. I put a DVD disc into the drive and closed it. The Asus make a whirring sound for a few seconds and then stopped. Nothing showed up on the screen.I tried absolutely every possible solution I could find on the internet. I checked Disk Utility, nothing was detected. I tried opening the DVD Player app, nothing. I even opened the DVD Player app using Rosetta, nothing. I then tried downloading and using the VLC media player which supposedly works better. It too was not able to detect the disc drive.Next, I tried using the second USB C port on my Mac, but this made no difference. I also tried using the drive while my Mac was plugged in at the wall, no luck. The problem wasn’t the DVD disc itself either, I tried several different ones but none of them were able to be played on this drive.Overall I was extremely disappointed with Asus, but I think the main culprit is Apple. It seems the Macbook Air M2 has been designed to reject external DVD drives, even their own Apple SuperDrive according to the internet. It may be that the Mac M2 is not able to supply enough power to the drive due to its experimental hardware.

Expensive failure
Failed after 16 months. Very little use and it was a premium price!

BEWARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH APPLE SILICON MACs
MACs with M2 or M1 chips will not allow this drive to connect, this has been confirmed by Aplne Support.
