Lid won't stay closed

My parents have used a bucket with a lid on it for their kitchen scraps for years, which always attracts so many fruit flies. I’ve since upgraded them to this beaut which is wide enough for them to scrape from a plate, it seals nicely and is super easy and convenient to pull and carry out to the compost. My mom loves the look of it and the ease of opening it with one finger versus 2 hands with the old bucket. She’s getting one for my grandma as well!

Our ever-curious, ever-hungry, cat could not get into this container overnight even when he knew it contained the scraps of our grilled steak dinner. That was our main criteria for replacement, since we no longer need to empty it after EVERY meal. The extra large opening lets us easily scrape our food in during prep and after meals. The inner basket is removable and fits nicely in our dishwasher. And it’s stylish enough to be displayed on our countertop. I wish we found this sooner.
