Reliable
Bought this before for a security cam system run and it lasted for 6 years and was taken out by humidity. Very dependable setup.

Easy conversion of ethernet to optical fiber
We get lightning storms more frequently, so I wanted to change my long runs to reduce possible lightning related damage (living room to the attic to the bedrooms on the other side of the house - 25-30meter runs). These made it easy and work fine over 25m of fiber. Solid metal housing, good diagnostic leds, supplied with little 5v supply.

Isolate a network or extend it via Fiber
Had a lightning strike destroy 2 computers, my ISP router and my personal router Lightning traveled through the Broadband connection through the router through the Cat5 connections to destroy 2 computers via Cat5 connectivity. Go figure. This should mitigate this threat from ever happening. I realized that my APC had and RJ-11 connection to protect against a surge like that but that's after the fact. I now have the broadband connection running into my APC. But I was committed in setting this up to see if it works. It does so beautifully. Refer to the diagram it should answer all your questions.

Low cost insurance for electrical surges/lighting strikes
Bought this to place between ISP modem and internal network managed switches/devices. Pretty much plug and play. Purchased the 1M BeyondTech SC/UPC to SC/UPC A/B fiber patch cable. A/B connects where A is in RX on both devices and B is in the TX on both devices. Plug in power, connect one RJ-45 to ISP Modem and one RJ-45 to internal managed switch. No change in ISP speeds. 16ms PING from San Antonio to Ft. Worth, 230mb/s download (200mb/s purchased) and 12mb/s upload (10mb/s purchased). No drop in throughput and truly plug-n-play simplicity. Did this as a test for my personal office will now do the same for the house. Also will look at getting fiber optic in length to run between main switch at the house and remote rooms that while WiFi works, hard-wired would be so much better.

Using for lightning protection?? READ THIS!
If you are using these to create an air gap for lightning protection MAKE SURE THE TWO ADAPTERS ARE PHYSICALLY SEPARATED! DO NOT MOUNT THEM AS PICTURED IN THE LISTING! I have a 300' run between my barn and my home. Put two of these at each end of the ethernet cable to isolate the line from lightning surges. Any long ungrounded outdoor cable can act as an antenna and will attract transient voltages (static emp) from nearby lightning storms. Wanting to save space at both ends of the run, I zip-tied the two boxes together. Since they are metal cases, and surge coming down the long ethernet cable simply jumped from one box to the other. It created small tack-weld spots on all four cases where the current jumped. It fried all four adapters, and a metric crap-ton of switches downstream on either side of the bridge. In all, I lost 7 switches and these four adapters. Interestingly, I had another set of adapters downstream of the failed ones, and they did not pass it on because I'd used thick 3M VHB tape between them, and there was no contact between the boxes. Lesson learned. Certainly not the fault of the his manufacture - but rather a rookie mistake.

Cheap lightening insurance
These work great. No lag and easy to set up They make a good air gap between a modem and router for electrical events. You can use them for longer distances but that was my use case.

Transformer Plugs it came with were US, but handle 100-240v, so just needed a plug converter. Cable I used it with was an SC/SC 30m multimode cable if anyone is wondering what will work - there might be others as Im not an expert in this area, but this worked fine and 30m was only about $50 Australian. Make sure you take off the little white plastic bits on the end if you are new to these.

I was fed up with bad wifi in my outbuilding so bought 100m of dual fibre and this pair of units. Although the fibre had to take some quite sharp bends in conduit once installed I'm easily getting more than 900mbps both ways reliably so very happy. Of course I stupidly bought fiber with the wrong connectors but some cheap adapters on this site fixed that.
