I would buy again
I know you can make your own fruit fly traps. My homemade ones never worked well. When I first bought these, the current generations of fruit flies were on their way out. I thought they didn't work. However, when the flies popped up again a couple of weeks later, a few have gotten stuck in here. I purchased some of the fly paper that another reviewer had recommended for a refill. The other brand is a little sticky to get into the trap (but it works). I don't think you necessarily have to buy the aromatic tea bag you put in the bottom of the jar. You could put anything that smells (maybe a regular tea bag) in the bottom after you have gotten it wet. What you are purchasing is the design. They fly into a hole in the side and can't get out. One of the flies had laid eggs inside. I was very glad it was in here and not somewhere else. You have to follow all of the other steps for getting rid of these pests (cleaning out everything, etc.). These won't work by themselves but they are a good second line of defense.

Ew
No one seems to know where the heck fruit flies come from... they just... appear. These little gnats are crazy annoying since they hone in on any fruit, fruit flavored anything, and of course, your face. It takes a good while for the flies to find this though. It's almost like they know. Anyways, after a few days, I checked the trap and they were MULTIPLYING!! Gross!!! There were little larvae wiggling around... I want to kill them, not build them a nursery! On top of that, there was a mold or something spawning around the moistened packet as well.Long story short.. it works after a while but salvaging/reusing is not ok with me

Works Great!! Lasts a Couple of Weeks so stock up
We kept getting fruit flies and gnats no matter what we did and how clean our place was. Sprays only lasted a short time and I don't like using them so when I saw this I thought it was worth a try. I was skeptical but it works great! You do need to remoisten the little packet inside the jar every few days. Ours lasted a couple of weeks, but it was well worth it and I'm ordering more. I wish they would sell refills though; I don't like wasting the jars.

Most attractive trap, but least effective
I've caught 4 flies with one trap in two weeks, and zero with the other trap. Re-moistening the lure needs to be done frequently. If I put out a small container with old wine that had started to go vinegar or beer (sometimes both, because you never know if the flies are beer drinkers or wine drinkers, I haven't done tests to determine if they prefer chardonnay to pino), add a couple of drops of unscented soap, mix well... This usually catches several within a couple hours. This is much more attractive than a cup with old beer / wine and dead flies floating in it.Eventually I'll try replacing the lure with old wine, but that instantly makes it less attractive.

Gotcha
These traps work somewhat, but does not last very long. I have had to keep replacing them. I use a lot of fruit for my diet, so I have at least 3 traps in the same area. I often see the fruit flies around the fruit instead of the traps. I have found that using vinegar/soapy solution in a dish works just as well.

Unobjectionable, but unexciting
It trapped quite a few fruit flies, but the trap part (the sticky cardboard) fills up/stops sticking so quickly that we soon had many walking around inside the trap. It may work well in combination with some other ideas (putting red wine and dish soap in the bottom to drown the flies after they enter) but it's not a very long-term solution otherwise.

So glad I purchased these
I'm surprised so many people did not have success with this product. I was embarrassed that we had fruit flies in our kitchen. We tried some of the home remedies, but did not have any success. We have been using these traps for a few days now and have a few live ones that are hanging around traps. I expect them to be inside the traps by the end of the weekend. I am going to purchase refills for the traps to place out to ensure they stay away for a bit. We have never had a problem before and I hope to not have a problem again.I highly recommend this product. We have at least 20 flies in each of the traps.

Traps the flies inside, but not on the sticky paper
The fruit flies were attracted to the bait and got stuck inside the trap, but they did not get stuck on the sticky paper. I saw them walking around on it. So I ended up with fly maggots all inside the trap... gross! I definitely didn't get to reuse it.
