No Bubble Wrap Needed. This Life Jacket Does the Job!
My granddaughter is 3 and wears a 4T. I couldn’t tell you how much she weighs—she’s my daughter’s kid and thankfully I’ve retired from tracking that kind of data. But when it’s Mimi time, the number one rule is: no getting hurt on Mimi’s watch. Since bubble-wrapping them wasn’t practical, I settled on the next best thing—keeping them afloat. This life vest was perfect. It fastens securely underneath, so it didn’t ride up or shift around, which gave my granddaughter the comfort and freedom to explore the water without me hovering in a full-blown panic. Even better—she felt so confident in it, she decided to swim all by herself! Highly recommend for any grandparents trying to keep their grandkids safe, happy, and above water—literally.

Slim fit and great for toddlers
Ordered for my 4 year old and works perfectly. Not too bulky and has room for him to move his arms freely

Buoyant and Confidence-Boosting
We bought this earlier this summer for our daughter. She's 37" tall, 32 lbs. I went with the bigger size because she was right at the weight limit, and I wanted her to be able to wear it again next year. Pre-pandemic, she had taken lessons at the YMCA, and did not use a life jacket. At the pool with lifeguards (and us with her) we don't use them either. But in the strange summer that this was, we we're lucky enough to know someone who welcomed us to their private pool. Without a lifeguard, though, I wanted something to assist our daughter in staying afloat. It fit her perfectly and was comfortable enough that she never complained. She was very unsure the first time she got into the water, until she realized what it would do for her buoyancy. Within a few minutes, she was paddling and kicking around the pool. It gave her incredible confidence, and even when we would swim without it, I noticed that she still felt very comfortable in the water. The fabric did "pick" very easily, and I expect by the time she gets done with it next summer, it won't look very good. Wish it had a sturdier fabric, as once the fabric picks and pulls, it starts to develop runs. (Like nylon stockings, for reference) The other issue was the crotch strap. It has a little pad that is designed to protect the wearer from chafing with the rough strap. However, it slides around and doesn't work well. My daughter ended up with a horrible "burn" where the strap rubbed the first day. (She didn't complain while wearing it, so I wasn't aware until we were done.) We tried to keep that pad in place on later uses. Loosening the strap doesn't fix the problem, as the jacket then just rides up to be around her ears, and the strap is still tight between her legs. I may see if I can sew a better pad before next year, to cover the entire strap. I picked one of these up locally for our younger daughter in the smaller size a week ago (for under five bucks) so am looking forward to using them for both girls next summer.

Great for Littles
This worked great for my 3 year old when we went to the water park. He hasn't learned how to swim yet so there is just enough padding to let him feel comfortable, but not too comfortable like a life vest where he can just float. I only took away one star because I received mine with a black smudge across the front like it was dropped prior to packaging? I'm not sure.

It’s good for a 2-3 year old
I originally bought this for my two year old and it still fits her perfectly now that’s she’s three.

Not for learning to swim
I needing something to transition my kid to something that had arms free/out of the puddle jumpers where the arms have floaties so its hard for them to move arms properly when learning or practicing swimming. Even though the arms can move freely with this vest we found there are so many other issues that prevent it from working properly for our intended use...learning to swim. My kid is, average size, and the vest fits perfectly, size wise and even a bit to grow. I will note there is zero way to adjust the size of the vest itself (*). The through-the-leg safety strap is so bad it cannot be used. But yet the vest is safety hazard if it's not used. No matter what length we have it adjusted the leg strap to it is either cutting into their you-know whats, or even off to the side is painful and annoying. Or its too loose so the vest rides up into the child's face. Not using the strap results in the vest pushing up into and covering the child's face while in the water. There is a small awkward patch that is supposed to be used on the leg strap to help buffer but it doesn't stay put and does not help buffering. The vest has a gap on each side (so basically a front panel of flotation and back panel of flotation) and its joined together by the neoprene type material. This us a very common design but I noticed that it caused my kid to rotate over on her back in the middle of freestyle practice. I'm sure its a common thing but it really is preventing proper learning of the first/basic freestyle swimming stroke. Working on basic freestyle strokes they rotate their body to bring one arm out behind them to bring forward/ahead of them, this rotation puts them on that side gap that has no flotation. Whay we found was that it then pushes her over onto her back/chooses the larger flotation side, which is the back peice. We are working to try smaller strokes/rotation so she can stay on her belly but its not working so well. Almost any rotation throws her on her back. We were practicing outside of swim school, then we go back to swim school and the teacher basically says that even tho these are billed as swim aids they are not, due to all the stuff I just mentioned lol. She says these should be used just as preventative drowning devices for like a boat, water park etc, for kids who have outgrown other floatations. So don't believe how this is listed, this will not help that much for learning to swim. * it says ages 4-6 so if you have a small or average size 4/5 year old then I wouldn't be suprised if this ended up being too big as there is no way to adjust size.

Favorite purchase for summer
This jacket is amazing 👏 My 2 year old loves to swim in the pool and this life jacket is perfect for pool days! It floats him well enough (I believe it’s not coast guard approved for boat but works great in the pool!) and the fit is great. We got the smaller size when he was 2 and had to size up this summer. The smaller size is a year old and has held up well enough that we can save it for baby brother too. I recommend this to all our friends!
