Spoiler-free: A funny story with a brilliant ending and a great addition to the Elmer books!
This another wonderful story with Elmer the patchwork elephant! Elmer is asked to babysit two little elephants. Their mother tells him to read them a bedtime story, that should send them off to sleep. But Elmer decides to take them for a walk instead because he believes that will tire them out. Along the way Elmer encounters lots of animals all giving him advice on how to help the young elephants go to sleep, but will Elmer’s idea have other consequences? ‘Elmer and the Bedtime Story is bigger than A4 in size and the paperback is filled with lots of thick glossy pages of some text and really colourful illustrations.I have fallen in love with Elmer books even though I never read them when I was younger and this is another great one with Elmer trying to tire out Stella and Mel so they’ll go to sleep. On their walk he meets Lion who asks Elmer if he’s babysitting too. Lion then gives his advice on what sort of story Elmer should tell the kids. This repeats with the different animals Elmer meets during the walk, each offering their advice on the right story to tell the kids. I love how Elmer often has a funny thing to say in response to all the different stories he’s recommended to tell. The different animals all have different ideas for a bedtime story but in the end when Elmer starts to tell his own bedtime story to the kids something funny happens instead. The illustrations are all so wonderful and I love how colourful and interesting Elmer’s world is. I love all the different plants and birds and things you can see in every picture and how this book makes you just want to sit and stare at the pages for a long time! All the animals including Elmer look so great and I just love how fun the whole story is and the expressions of all the characters.Overall this is such a great book and another great addition to the Elmer collection of books. This time the ending is a good and funny one which I’m sure the adults reading can probably see coming. However it’s still funny for both kids and adults to read and I’m sure both will enjoy reading this together more than once!-Thanks to Andersen Press for a free copy for review.

Elmer and the big walk
A simple story in which Elmer is babysitting two baby elephants and takes them on a big walk to tire them out so that they'll sleep well. On the walk they meet a few different animals who all make recommendations for different bedtime stories to help put the baby elephants to sleep. In the end when it's time for the bedtime story, Elmer and the babies are so tired from their walk that they don't need a bedtime story - they fall asleep from being tuckered out.A classic Elmer tale, with the classic beloved colourful artwork. The story for me was a little too simple to give it 5/5, so 4/5 feels like a fairer rating.

Good Walk in the Jungle beats bedtime story
Elmer the patchwork elephant is asked by her friend to look after her two little elephant Stella and Mel as she is off to visit her sister and will only be back very late. Elmer decides it would be a good idea to take them with her on her walk through the forest and tire them both out. Along the way she meets up with various different animals who surprisingly are all babysitting too and they are quick to give advice about telling Stella and Mel different stories to get them to sleep.Eventually they arrive home and the little elephants ask her to tell them a story. Elmer begins her story and before she gets too far into the story they are both fast asleep. When their mother returns to collect them the mother commented that a good story always does the trick. Elmer cheekily replied that so does a good walk and it is a pity that they never did get to the part where they lived Happily ever after. The illustrations were vibrant and bright and were very descriptive and added a lot to the story.I received this Advanced Reading Copy directly from Walker Books for review purposes.

Lovely, sweet bedtime read
Who doesn't love Elmer the Patchwork Elephant and this new book - Elmer and the Bedtime Story is a lovely book to complement the series. In this latest book we meet Elmer who is tasked with looking after two young Elephants. Their mother states she will be back late and Elmer will need to put them to bed and a story will help them drift off. After a lovely long walk and meeting lots of other animals bedtime arrives but what story will Elmer get to tell them (if any). The book is very sweet, just the perfect length for a bedtime read and is a lot of fun.It is bright, colourful, and had some amazing full-page illustrations. Definitely a book for any Elmer fan.*I received a free copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed

Elmer never disappoints
Our 2 year old daughter loves Elmer and the stories created around that patchwork Elephant. She really enjoyed ‘Elmer and the Bedtime Story’ as it also contains all other animals in the jungle.
