GREAT BAGS - STRONG O2 ABSORBERS -- STRONG SEALS - EXTRA 2" IS HELPFUL
Many positives about this order: 1) The bags themselves are strong, sturdy and arrived in a FLAT BOX (bags not folded in shipping - yeh) 2) The O2 absorbers were fresh, warmed immediately, and worked great to remove the O2 inside the bag over the next 24-48 hours. 3) The SIZE of these bags is EXCELLENT at 2" longer (on top) (10"x16"") than the typical 1 Gal bag which is 10x14". I found this extra length especially helpful. It not only gives me a bag that I can later open and reuse, still having a 1 gal capacity left, but it allows for any mistakes you may make in sealing the bags. Lots of room at the top. I typically fill all bags first, then seal all bags about 3/4 across, leaving enough room to add the O2 absorbers later when I'm ready to make the final seal. Generally, I'll seal about 4ea 1 Gal bags at a time, removing 4ea 300cc O2 absorbers - 1 for each bag. Immediately after opening the O2 absorber pack, I have a vacuum sealer bag ready and waiting to reseal immediately the ones I won't use right away. Yes -- It works to keep the O2 sealers out of the air that you're not immediately using, and yes I do this every time I redo another 3 - 4 bags. 4) Last the bags held strong and did not puncture or lose their seal against these products that I've sealed up in these bags -- Long Grain White Rice, Instant Rice, All types of Dried Beans, Bulk Old Fashioned Oats.

Very Nice Mylar Bags, Large Sized
These are very nice bags, happy with the price! I didn't see any better pricing for this quality of bags without getting into wholesale type quantities. They're thick enough that they seem unlikely to puncture for most any products but not ridiculously priced. The size was a little bigger than I imagined so if in doubt, measure before you buy and make sure this is what you actually wanted. It's nice to have the opaque bags like this if you're using it for long term storage and you know what's in there anyway.... I understand why so many of these are transparent on one side since people packaging things for resale want to show the contents but it's nice to have options and be able to keep the sunlight out. Only thing is that I don't know how you're supposed to take advantage of the color changing oxygen absorbers if you can't see the packet. I sealed these with my vacuum sealer using the seal only setting after pushing out as much air as I could. I've read you can also use an iron and I'm sure that would work fine too. Keep in mind that some products will do better vacuum sealed and some better just sealed in these kind of mylar bags. I wouldn't plan on vacuum sealing these, but it's probably unnecessary anyway if you use the oxygen absorber packets.

Mylar goodness, great value for smaller projects!
Added these to an order as I'd had them on a list for a while and decided to store some longer term food in case of a hurricane (Gulf Coast). The included 300cc Oxygen absorbers worked as advertised and according to several sites, are the appropriate size for the 1-Gallon bags contained in this product. NOTE: I used a flat iron to seal the bags most of the way, then used a hard plastic straw to suck out as much air as possible, then sealed the remaining opening as quickly as possible. This seems to be a successful process as after about 12 hours the bags were nice and compacted to the food within (Rice in this case). Worked equally well for pasta and beans. Overall I'm very pleased with this product, and will be ordering more in the future for other projects. These bags would also be useful for sealing in a first aid kit, clothes, and anything else you wanted to protect while outdoors, hiking, etc... definitely alot of possible uses for these.

Mylar food storage bags...
I have just gotten into long term food storage. I like what I have read so far but have just sealed my first set of bags. No matter what you read about mylar bags and your FoodSaver... the FoodSaver cannot suck the air out and/or seal these bags! There are other methods to sealing these bags, such as a flat iron (one that is made for your hair), a clothes iron/ironing board, or an impak sealer. There is one vacuum sealer made by Impak Corp that I found that will vacuum seal your mylar bags and it is made for home use. I have purchased one and have sealed several bags so far and Love It!!

More than HALF of the bags had pinprick holes rendering them useless for long term storage of foods, I've used Mylar bags for the past ten years and never had a problem, more than half of these bags with holes in is way too much, I'll be looking to another firm to purchase from. this company is taking the mickey plus they were sent out and arrived in a flimsy grey bag when they should have been put in a solid cardboard box to give some protection. I would not recommend these bags, for the amount wasted they don't even come close to value.
