Title: Excellent Visibility and Safety for Urban Cycling
I recently purchased the Garmin Varia UT 800 Smart Headlight for my urban cycling, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The headlight provides exceptional brightness, making me feel much safer during night rides. The 800-lumen output is perfect for city streets, ensuring I’m visible to motorists while also lighting up the road ahead. The Smart features, such as automatic adjustment based on speed and ambient light, really add to the convenience. The included Dual Out-front Mount is a game-changer, keeping the headlight securely positioned and giving me a clear view of the road. The setup was easy, and the build quality is solid. Battery life is also great—lasts for several rides before needing a recharge. If you're looking for a high-quality, smart headlight for urban cycling, I highly recommend the Garmin Varia UT 800. It’s a fantastic addition to any bike, especially for increased safety and visibility in low-light conditions.

A little expensive but worth it I think
I have a Garmin Edge 530 that I ride my bike with. I had been using Night Rider front lights that don't have any bike computer integration capability. They're nice lights but one big drawback is you don't know what kind of battery life you have left. The Garmin Varia front light can be integrated nicely with my Edge into a light network. I also have the Varia rear tail light with radar that alerts me anytime a vehicle approaches from the rear. So the front and back lights form a network. You can change the light function such as intensity, daylight or night time flashing, steady or intermittant and other things. Plus you can see approximately how much battery life you have left. It comes with a mounting kit for round cross section handle bars. The bare light mounts perfectly with my Canyon bike K-Edge handle bar accessory mount which also supports mounting my Edge 530. One trick I learned is when you're done with your ride you need to completely power down your Edge (if that's what you have) as well as the lights. When you go on your next ride, power up the light first. You can press the light power button multiple times to select continuous or flash mode and then when the light is operating then power up your Edge. If you have the rear tail light with radar, power it up first as well before you power up the Edge. When both the front and rear lights are operating, then power up the Edge. I found that if you only put your Edge in sleep mode you have trouble forming the light network. But do it in that order and it works great!

Crazy bright and feature filled but battery life is not long.
It's hard to review this light because it's in a class of it's own. Paired with a garmin head unit it does so many things a standard light can't do.The variable light makes night rides so much better. It's crazy bright and has a good beam pattern that really does get wider and more narrow with your speed. It turns on and off with your head unit and you can change the brightness right from the garmin. It's compact and comes with more mounting hardware than you'll need including a dual mount arm that holds the light and the garmin - This kit costs 30 bucks on it's own! It looks good, it's compact, it's out of the way and not hanging on your bars. The bad:The battery life isn't very long. If you leave it in it's default mode you get about an hour and a half of the best-lit bike ride you've ever had. You can extend the life by disabling the fancy variable light feature and locking it to a lower output. On long rides you need a second light if this one runs out. (You should always take 2 lights anyway) On the upside, as a daytime flasher it lasts all day.USB Micro B power connector - It's a good one, but it's time to move to USB C.

Expensive, but well worth it!
You will buy this to use along with a Garmin head unit. Do not buy this to use as a light on its own.I love love LOVE how well this integrates with my Garmin GPS on my bike. It's just... so cool. It will auto adjust brightness depending on my speed (at night). It will auto detect the ambient light and entering a flashing mode or full beam.It overall feels really high quality as well. I use this in conjunction with a Garmin Varia and I feel SAFE riding at night.

Works with Wahoo head unit
Many light modes and links with my Wahoo head unit to automatically turn on when starting a ride! The link allows control of the intensity/flash mode and you can see the status on the menu.I would recommend this item.
