The Edge of Human (Blade Runner, Book 2)

Back from the dead, plot twists and dark survival
I read this book several years ago and wanted to purchase it, just to see if it was as I remembered. :) Nostalgia! But I read the reviews for it and everyone seemed disappointed. Nonetheless, I was curious to see if the book stood up to my memory....Well, I admit that there were a few plot twists that left me saying "what?" I enjoyed my "new read." Jeter moves fast, and the book feels like a developed film script. The characters are out of the Blade Runner movie, not the book by Philip K. Dick. If you enjoyed the movie, you'll likely enjoy this too. Be warned that certain people are back from the dead, and there's this whole "identity" subplot that would make a good idea for a series pilot, if such a thing were to be made in a few years. I especially liked Jeter's description of the Sideways area of LA. The scene is dark, brooding and um, I'll say it, the book is sexy in a strange way! There's also an abuse survivor story that was hard for me to read. I kept hoping for the heroine's redemption, but I wasn't sure if that would happen. The ending messed with me a little, too, because I had a feeling that it could go either way if there was a sequel.Anyway, I guess it might be love or hate with this book. I couldn't understand all the reasons for bringing the dead back. Jeter talked a lot about love and death--like I said, it's a dark adventure.

A fun ride
The reviewer who described this book as "geekbook mindcandy" made me laugh. I totally agree. As a shameless fangirl, I enjoyed the Phil Dick novel, the film in all its versions, and this tie-in book. It pulled me into the suspense of the plot. I enjoyed the descriptive passages--Jeter clearly loves this version of the future. I'm disappointed to see that this book and the rest of the series are out of print, but copies are readily available for a reasonable price.

and I thought way better than the 1st book
Shhhhh, it's a secret! The sequel to bladerunner, and I thought way better than the 1st book. The movie is my favorite all time movie. one of the few masters of the universe. I'm sure the movie coming out soon will not compare but i still may die waiting!

Sequel to the original Blade Runner.
I found the story-line following the movie version both good and dissappointing. I would have hoped for a movie tie-in, plot-wise, but follow the original story more faithfully. All in all, not that bad a book.

Outstanding, a brilliant exploration of the Blade Runner world and characters!
I wasn't expecting this to be such a fascinating read, but the dialogue was brisk and engaging, and the descriptive passages were top-tier quality. I would probably have enjoyed any sort of tale that romped through the Blade Runner world, but this was a fantastic read and surpassed my expectations in spades.A story following an original of such stature was never going to please everyone, and KWJ was likely constrained by not being able or allowed to resolve certain questions raised by the book/movie. Nevertheless, numerous themes have been explored more deeply and taken in exciting new directions that are both challenging and provocative.Fantastic work, I will certainly soon be reading the next volumes in the series and checking out Jeter's other work.

A good sequel to the movie
Bladerunner is one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi movies so I decided to give the books a try. Bladerunner 2 does manage to recapture the feel of the movie and develops further the characters and themes of the original film. There is more action and also numerous plot twists and turns. Overall the story keeps your attention and should satisfy most Bladerunner fans. However I have given 4 stars rather than 5 as I felt that it could have been even better. There are perhaps too many red herrings and I was disappointed that two important characters from the film were killed off so early in the story, police chief Bryant, and Gaff (who was probably the most sinister, mysterious and interesting characters in the movie) is killed off even before the book begins.Still a good read though and I feel its worth trying the next instalment Bladerunner 3 replicant night.
