Q: is it a mostly sweet, or sour pickle? reading the ingredients i cant tell.

Tangy is the best description. The whole "pickle" description is misleading because we Americans think of dill or sweet pickles and pickle relishes. Branston relish is not in the same category. It is chunky bits of vegetables pickled in a brown sweet and tangy brown sauce that has a spicy/savory edge to it. If you are looking for actual pickle relish, this is the wrong product. Like someone else mentioned, it's an English food so it's usually paired with other strong flavored like meats bad sharp pungent cheeses. I would say most American palettes would not like it. The only reason I bought it is because I wanted to make pickle sandwiches, sharp aged cheddar cheese with this on thick bread. Delicious. But different.

It comes from the UK so is obviously not the US version but I checked the ingredients anyway - no corn syrup.

Yes, but they will probably replace it for you. It's a matter of it possibly being spoiled, due to the open jar.

Label says to refrigerate after opening.
