Easy to use and extremely effective
Really excellent for kitchen use. Quite possibly the best honing rod I’ve used. Ceramic seems superior to steel in both was of use and results. A few quick passes and my knives are effortlessly slicing again. The guide for angle of use is also very handy. This makes use easy even for beginners.

A Well Made Knife Honer
I bought this specifically to sharpen the curved blades of my karambit knives, for which it works very well. It should be noted that this is not a "sharpening tool", per se, but a honing tool. It is made to increase the sharpness of an already sharp blade that has gotten slightly dull. It is well made and incorporates a sharpening angle in the handle. I have only used it on my karambits and a few kitchen knives so far, and I've only had it for a few weeks, so I can't speak to its longevity or durability. It does put a very keen edge on knives. My kitchen knives slice through tomatoes effortlessly, making slices so thin they are almost transparent if I want to do that. I don't think it will work on serrated knives. Again, it won't do anything for a really dull blade. But if you have a knife that has lost that fine edge from use, this will restore it to almost razor sharpness.

Actually works! Saved my OXO kitchen shears.
I am not a sponsored reviewer; I bought this Work Sharp Ceramic Rod with my own money. I previously had a basic "SALT" brand honing rod that came in a block set from Bed Bath & Beyond, but I never felt like it did much. Compared to that old one, this Work Sharp rod is a night-and-day difference. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it has already proven its worth on my OXO kitchen shears. Since those shears come apart, I could easily hone each blade. It brought them back from being dull and useless to having a crisp, sharp edge again. The built-in angle guides are great because they actually show you what you're doing, which my old rod didn't have. If you're looking to upgrade from a cheap block-set rod, this is definitely worth it.

Angle guides are great for teaching or beginners!
This is a great honing rod at a great price! I like that it has the angle guide, as I am teaching my son how to properly sharpen knives. It is a good length to comfortably sharpen even long chef knives. The rubber end lets you sharpen knives vertically supported on a countertop or butcher block, and doesn't interfere if you are sharpening your knife while holding it freely. If you get in the habit of running your knives over a rod after each use, it is very quick to keep your knives in top condition. Highly recommended.

Simple and quick way to maintain an edge.
The tool that is included with most knife sets is typically worthless. They do almost nothing to keep the edge on your kitchen knives sharp. This tool does an excellent job of fine-tuning an edge. It's not a sharpener, but a honer. If your knives start sharp, this will help maintain an edge and dramatically extend the time between full sharpening. Knife sharpening is a hobby of mine, and I appreciate speed and simplicity. This tool fill both of those wants. Price is reasonable for a tool of this quality. Very reasonable value. It's build well and should last a very long time. Very durable.

It’s important to understand the purpose of a honing rod: it’s not to sharpen the edge but to realign it as it bends/deviates after use. The deformation is minimal but enough to reduce razor sharpness. So instead of buying diamond textured rods (which will take off metal) a ceramic rod is far better: minimal or zero metal loss. Plus this WorkSharp has built-in 20° angle guides; that’s the usual angle used for regular kitchen knives and it’s essential to retain the angle the knife was sharpened at. So, though it seems expensive initially, it does the job perfectly.
