LOVE Herbatint. I typically use a blend of different colors (my go to's are 7N, 8N/C, 9N, 10N/C with a mix of anywhere of 2-3. I've used 9N a couple times alone and it looks beautiful though). I have natural blonde hair (7.5N/8N) and will say that you will still need to bleach from time to time however my hair has never been healthier and thicker! I'm in my upper 30's and my hair has not felt this healthy since high school. Not sure I can fully attribute solely to Herbatint, however I am certain it has helped a lot. I feel confident in their ingredients and after many years of getting my hair done, I've never gotten more compliments on my hair since doing it myself. I will note that, just like anything there is a learning curve when it comes to coloring your hair (at least for blondes, or at least I can speak for myself lol) - I had used other products before finding Herbatint and such products damaged my hair so my advice to those getting started, even with Herbatint when blending colors, you will have some awkward colors, all of which were my own fault but when I nail it, its so good! What is great is that you can reuse the colors for multiple uses, it comes with everything that you need less the mixing materials, one of the least tox on the market which was really important to me, and they have enough info online for you to find your color/shade/mix and then let your creativity come out. My only feedback for Herbatint is the new packaging where you can't see how much you are pouring out, would love to see them go back to see through bottle (i'm aware you can measure but still makes it more difficult). Overall, 100% recommend.

Grab your coffee, this is a long one! I've tried multiple brands and shade variations over the years, with the HERBATINT brand being my favorite so far (for color shade, color lasting and overall ingredient preferences). This color, 5N is the best shade for me. 5N's from other brands looked similar after applying, however faded much faster (2.5 - 3 weeks) and gave a weird brassy look. This brand's color holds up pretty well until i get around to coloring it (6-8 weeks). My adult hair is medium brown with hairline gray, which was mostly gray in the past (more on that later...). New hair growth is mostly coming in as my adult medium brown color. My childhood hair was light-medium brown with some strawberry blonde mixed in, which is important to note because my hair picks up red tones regardless of the shade of brown I pick. I've tried the lights, mediums and darks and all pick up my red undertones. The color always looks different in the sun, shade and indoors. I judge what I like on how it looks indoors or in the shade. Photo #1 - taken inside in the bathroom, day after coloring. Photo #4 - taken outside in the sunlight, same day as photo #1, . --Photos 1 and 4 reflect coloring using 1/2 oz argan oil mixed into HERBATINT coloring (can still be applied using a brush)-- Photo #2 - taken outside in the shade, the day after coloring. Photo #3 - taken outside in sunlight, the day after coloring. --Photos 2 and 3 reflect using 1 oz argan oil mixed into HERBATINT coloring (must be applied using a bottle)-- Manipulating the color using Argan Oil... When I first tried this product it dried my hair out, feeling a bit coarse. I really liked the color result, so I decided to alter the formula by adding argan oil, which made a huge difference in how my hair felt after coloring. The more argan oil use, the lighter the color result. You can do an argan oil treatment the day before coloring and still get the moisturizing benefits when you color, but mixing in about 1/2 oz with the color makes it much easier to apply. Hair feels better afterwards too. After I apply color to the roots as instructed, I then thoroughly mix the argan oil into the coloring and apply, starting again at the roots and going all the way down. I've experimented using up to an ounce. As you can see in the photos, the amount of argan oil used changes the color depth. Using 1/2 oz argan, as in pics 1 and 4, definitely gives a deeper color, both indoors and out. Using 1 oz lightens it up quite a bit, but it's still a nice color. Graying... Many years ago I was very I'll. Among other issues, my hair began graying everywhere quickly and falling out fast, yet I was only in my 30's! Unusual hair loss and graying is considered a sign/symptom of something else. In my case it was poor gut health. Do a nutrient check! Deficiencies in B12, B9, D, iron, copper and zinc are all associated with premature graying. After radically cleaning up my diet and lifestyle habits, my gut health began to improve, as did my skin health. New hair growth was mostly coming in as my normal adult color and hair loss was also normalizing. Remember, long hair falling out in the shower looks like a lot more hair than short hair does, when it's sitting in a clump on the drain top. Just get to know what's normal for you and you'll know if improvements are happening, regardless of what you're monitoring (hair loss, effects of dietary/lifestyle changes, supplement use, etc.). Scalp health, normalizing sebum... 100% Jojoba oil is something I began using as I cleaned up the chemicals and additives in my my skincare products. I used to apply it to my scalp every other night to normalize sebum production, which in turn normalizes overly dry or overly oily skin, which in turn affects premature graying and hair loss. Now that my sebum production is more normal, I use it once or twice a month on my scalp. Using jojoba all over my body after showing tremendously improved my dry skin, without being oily. Doing this after each showering... Adding a few drops of 100% pure peppermint essential oil to jojoba oil when applying to the scalp will energize the scalp, stimulating even more hair growth. Adding a few drops of 100% pure rosemary essential oil to the mix is even better. I do this at night, massaging it in with my fingertips on the scalp area. I use cotton sheets and the oil residue doesn't stain them. If not applying overnight, then leave on for at least an hour before showering. Depending on how much peppermint you use, you may feel a slight tingling on the scalp. The feeling will intensity when showering. I like it.

(the best way to apply the dye is using a bowl and brush. A set with different sizes of brushes that make it easier to color smaller areas,like behind the ears. In reading the bad reviews for this I can only think the person used it on oily hair,in which case the dye stuck to oil or other hair care products (sprays,gels,leave in conditioner,conditioner/product build up which coats the hair;or hair that was unwashed/oily("dirty"). ) Other bad reviews show the person doesn't understand the product and had heavy-chemical mass produced/commercial haircolor products expectations in mind. Other bad reviews indicate they didn't allow processing time. I have used this product for over 15 years,only doing the roots to cover grey/silver that comes with being past 40. My results have been very good. This product does not lighten hair,though colors 8N and above can lighten hair. The way to get a truly lighter shade result might be to remove the color from your hair first,using a dye remover or professional hair bleach and THEN applying the dye (and subsequently doing the same process to the roots to achieve a uniform hair color;) But contacting herbatint first on using the product that way is the only thing to do. They might be able to give a better answer or a more accurate answer. I do know THE ONLY way to dramatically change hair from a darker color to a blond is to bleach your hair first,or use a dye remover from a beauty supply house if you have dyed your hair,and THEN apply the blond shade. THIS will give a true blond color. I have done this process using a commercial grade hair color,way back around 1980. I used Clairol or something as my blond hair dye. A hair coloring bowl and brush is the best way to apply the dye. There are several to choose from with a wide range of prices. If quality is part of it I suppose the brushes could be a better quality,and some sets or kits have a choice of brush sizes or include hair clips to seperate hair into sections to see and dye the roots more easily. I think the clips are awkward,myself but having the hair sectioned into seperate areas has advantages and lets you apply the dye more quickly. Small pony tail bands might be better for fine hair,which is what I have. Leaving herbatint on for the full processing time is needed. If I have a larger area to cover,instead of taking the time with a larger application,which takes longer to apply,I will do it in two applications so I don't have to worry about dye being on my hair for longer than 40 minutes,with the dye last applied being in the 35 to 40 minute time frame. The processing time being too short will be another reason grey coverage was not achieved,along with the dye washing-off if the hair was oily or coated with other hair care products when it was used. The dye will stick to the gunk or oil on the hair. Instead of being on the strands of hair themselves,the dye instead is on hair care coatings or hair oil,all of which wash off,taking the dye right along with it. Also,the dye is DARKER on the hair after being applied. And the hair stays darker for about 2 weeks. If a chestnut or lighter color was used,the hair will look much darker than anticipated,for about 2 weeks,7 to 10 washings in 14 days. It DOES lose the heavy pigmentation and lighten up after normal washing,after about 2 weeks. Possibly my good results are because I don't use the dye,at all,on anything but the roots. I don't add color to hair that has already been colored at the roots. And my hair is very natural looking. And healthy looking. Also I periodically,6 to 10 times a year,use an undiluted straight foodgrade white vinegar rinse on my hair,which removes shampoo and conditioner residue from the hair. And so when I use the dye,my hair has minimal or no hair care products build up on it. (this is just using about 16 ozs white vinegar in a large bowl). Kneeling in the bath tub I put the top of my head in the bowl. Then I use a comb and plastic 1/2 cup measuring cup to scoop the vinegar onto my hair and pour it over my hair,combing it through with a detangling comb. The half cup measuring cup is an arbitrary thing. It was what I grabbed the first time I did this so I just stuck with it. After putting the vinegar on (starting with dry,not wet or freshly washed hair),I rinse it out,thoroughly,in the shower,and then wash and condition my hair . White vinegar is a GREAT soap scum buster and removes shampoo and conditioner build up on the hair. In recommending this I have to stress,DO NOT get vinegar in your eyes. It burns like crazy. I don't think it damages them but it feels like it could be doing damage,because it burns and stings. Being Very Careful and also keeping a wet cloth nearby to wipe across the area if or when some vinegar might get in is the thing to do. Also,undiluted vinegar on the skin,face neck,back,chest and shoulder area,causes an alarming reddening of the skin. This is temporary. For people with skin problems or skin conditions,asking doctor or looking up info online is important to see if you shouldn't use undiluted white vinegar. Also it shouldn't be used where sores or broken skin can be affected by it because it would sting and burn when it entered the wound or broken skin or the irritated skin if someone has a definite skin condition that is known or diagnosed. If skin reddening concerns you,put a teaspoonful of undiluted white vinegar on your shoulder or neck ;or just put it on the inside of your forearm where allergy patch-tests are most often recommended [it is only vinegar but there are a small percentage of people who have skin conditions that could make using it a bad idea,so my cautionary note is along the lines of "don't use or immerse blow dryer while you are in the bath tub". ] If the skin reddens then the redness goes away within 10 or 20 minutes,that is normal. If you have concerns,don't use it or consult your doctor or dermatologist first. Erring on the side of caution because certain people might be adversely affected using undiluted white vinegar. But for what it does,if it doesn't bother someone in what it does under normal circumstances,it certainly is effective and worthwhile to use. And so is the herbatint N series permanent hair dye. You get good results and grey coverage and the product meets expectations as long as you use it the way the directions say to use it and don't have unrealistic expectations when using it. This,the Normalizing Shampoo and also the Royal Cream Conditioner are vegan. Not all of the herbatint products are vegan but the permanent hair color and the shampoo and conditioner mentioned here are. I'm not sure if the temporary hair color gel is or not. Hope this helps. It is a good product and does what it says it does. If what you expect differs from the product description,consulting a licensed stylist or using a product that says it does what you expect it to do is the only solution. A product can't be blamed for mistakes the consumer made or if someone expected results this product makes no claim to achieve. I think I have bought this item at amazon at least one time. If not I assume the 'verified purchase' will not show up.

Okay, here me out....I give this five stars for quality of the dye. For the first time, I have found a gentle formula permanent hair dye without the t*xic stuff, that actually has 100% gray coverage. The color is rich and vivid, shiny, and not dull/flat at all. My hair is soft and smooth like it isn't dyed. There also isn't any weird or unpleasant odor to the dye or conditioner. No sulphur or ammonia smell. It was fairly easy to mix and apply. However, I give it one star because first, I thought I was getting a darker copper brown - Auburn. Instead, what it winds up being is a DARK BURGUNDY! My hair looks like a red wine! A far cry from what the pictures show....It IS a beautiful color, but it's not what I was expecting and is not my style. Second, when you put a shower cap on and let the dye sit, it generated heat. It was a bit scary because the ingredients shouldn't have created a chemical reaction like that. I didn't have ANY other products in my hair and it's been 8 months since I last dyed it. I also lost quite a bit of hair in the rinsing process, but I think it just looked more scary than it really was because I AM technically shedding at the moment (thanks hormones). Third, I really wish that a brush had been included in the box. I had to use my fingers and hands to apply, which made quite the mess on my sink. My take away with this product, 4R copper chestnut specifically? Don't wear a shower cap, just be careful with not touching anything if you have long hair (I do). And do NOT get any of the red options unless you like variations of burgundy! Also make sure you purchase a dye brush separately. Three stars is my final score. I'll buy this brand again, but next time I'll try a different shade. Copper should not equal burgundy!

Thank goodness I found this product. My scalp had become very sensitive, and I really needed a healthier alternative to traditional box dyes. While it’s not completely chemical-free, it’s gentle enough that I have no irritation at all, which makes a huge difference for me. I usually mix shades 4N and 5N to get the color I want, and the results are consistent and natural-looking. It does cover gray well. Like any hair color, it fades over time, but that’s expected. Overall, I’m very happy with Herbatint. It’s a much healthier option than what I was using before, and my scalp feels calm and comfortable. I’ll definitely continue using it.

It’s dark, especially if your hair was mostly gray, it’s quite a shock. With that said I liked everything about it. It didn’t smell bad. It went on good. It’s nice and thick. I bought a coloring kit on Amazon for like 10 bucks that had a bowl, the brush, the gloves and a shoulder wrap for your clothes, that worked out . Though the stuff is thick and it didn’t make a mess on the plastic wrap.I used the whole thing because I have long hair, but it worked out and I’m gonna try a light chestnut next time. It lasted a long time too.
