Reliable, Tough, and Fast – My Go-To Portable Drive
This is my third LaCie Rugged, and it continues to impress. I use it primarily for backing up video footage and large photo libraries, and the transfer speeds over USB 3.0 are consistently fast and stable. What really sets this drive apart is the build—it's survived multiple trips in my backpack, a couple drops, and even a coffee spill (not kidding). The orange bumper might not be subtle, but it's instantly recognizable and protective. Whether you're a creative professional or just want reliable storage on the go, this drive delivers both performance and peace of mind. Worth every penny.

Tough, reliable, and fast – perfect for work on the go
This drive is a beast! I use it for photo and video backup in the field, and it’s never let me down. The rugged design really holds up – I’ve dropped it, used it in dusty and wet conditions, and it keeps performing flawlessly. Transfer speeds are solid with USB-C, and it's also compatible with older USB 3.0 ports. Lightweight, compact, and peace of mind in a bright orange shell. A must-have for creatives and travelers!

This compact powerhouse, and it’s completely transformed how I manage my files. Dragging and dropping projects is now a breeze no more hunting through scattered folders or drives. Everything lives neatly in one spot, which has made my workflow so much smoother and my desk clutter-free. The transfer speeds are impressively fast, and setup was literally plug-and-play. I even tested its toughness with an accidental drop, and thanks to that rugged shell, not a single file was hurt. For anyone juggling a ton of data on the go, this little beast has your back every step of the way.

not reliable for me on Mac machines; REVISING MY REVIEW
I regret that my two year experience with this drive using Mac machines is not positive. I have not found it to be reliable. To recover files on the drive now...again...I must fire up an antique Chromebook, which sees my files so I can back them up elsewhere. It worries me and I'm not messing with this drive further.--Same issues on newer UnionSine drive. Drives mount one time but not the next...Disk Utility hangs trying to find it...workaround is to mount the drive on my ancient Chromebook...which sees the drives and files fine...then retry on Mac...usually this works but it is really weird...I see now it has to do with how I formatted these drives as exFAT as advised...both my Macs randomly spit it out and say yuck...nerve wracking as these are important back up drives...honestly WTH why are we still having drive compatibility crap like this? So apologies LaCie it does not seem to be your fault...

Update: Works OK after mysterious initial failure
REVISED 01/01/25: I purchased this to back up a half-full 6TB Seagate Backup Plus drive that's acting flaky, attached to my MacMini.UPDATE: The drive came formatted EX-FAT (Mac and Windows compatible) with a USB-C to USB3-Micro B "Super Speed" (two lobes, for the drive) cable. With no spare USB-C ports on my MacMini, I used a Samsung USB3-A to USB3-Micro B cable from an older Seagate drive into a Sabrent USB3-A hub on the MacMini. It worked fine at first, then failed as described below. Retrying with the LaCie cable into a USB-C to USB3-A adapter into the hub worked. Super sensitivity in the Mac system? I have no other explanation as the drive continues to work on Windows PCs with the old Samsung cable.INITIAL REPORT: It mounted fine out of the box, and macOS Disk Utility recognized it as a 5TB volume "LaCie." The first few copy batches of multi-GB files and folders worked OK, but then copying stopped, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 reported "Copy operation stopped, volume disappeared." (WTF??). macOS Disk Utility no longer sees the device. It mounted as a USB volume on Windows 11, and I could see the copied files. Windows reported disk problems so I ran the Scan & Repair utility (Properties->Tools), which took a while but reported a successful repair. Trying again on macOS, and the same result: The drive starts up (vibrates) as expected but doesn't mount and is still invisible to the Disk Utility app.

Built like a tank and works perfectly with Mac.
Works really well. I use it for my MacBook Time machine backups. Lots of storage space and built like a tank. It's a little more expensive but it is worth it because of the rugged build.
