Superior to all other formats.
First off, I would like to say that the Marvel Omnibus format has to be my favorite, compared to all other trades Marvel releases. Now the review can begin. This book is a HEAVY faux-leather book that is fantastically bound and well made. The cover is a crimson red with a distinctive silver "Ultimate Spider-man" insignia on the front, this cover is subtle yet dignified. The Spine of the book has the "Marvel Omnibus" logo on the top with the title and creative team on the side, this is all in the same silver tone as the insignia on the cover. This book is physically superior to most other formats, and graciously outshines the paperback trades. The dust jacket features a gallery of all the covers in this volume, which is a nice touch. As for the content of the book itself, the content is a perfect partner to the aesthetic appeal of this volume.Ultimate Spider-man has the fantastic creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley. Bendis is at his best in this series and is able to wonderfully capture the spirit of Spidey, from his guilt to his quips directed at his foes. As for Bagley, the art is great at capturing the swell of these epic conflicts between our young hero and his foes. Not only that but Bagley is also able to capture the individual spectrum of emotions for each character, from Kraven to MJ.This volume collects some of young Peter's most interesting conflicts. The first arc establishes fan-favorite Norman Osborn as possibly Spider-man's most dangerous foe. As difficult as it would seem to usurp this as the supreme arc in the story, the series continues to improve as you read. The rouges gallery given and improved upon include: Electro, Doc Ock, Kingpin, Kraven the Hunter and more. The final arc in this volume is a fitting climax for the series. Venom, who has been one of the most popular villains in Spider-man history, gets his ultimate universe origin at the end of this volume and gives us a wonderful insight into the emotions of our hero, and those he loves. At the end of the book there is a section dedicated to sketches and creator interview and even deleted scenes, to my knowledge this volume is the only way to get these awesome extras.Overall I would say that this volume is a must buy for someone who is a fan of the series or someone who just wants to find somewhere to start reading. The price listed by Amazon is extremely reasonable and makes this definitely worth purchasing.

My favorite Spider-Man series!
First off, let me say that I've played the video game "Ultimate Spider-Man" before I knew it was a comic book series. It was my favorite Spider-Man game ever. When I found out it was a comic book series, I decided to buy it and give it a go. This is a really good series. This omnibus collects Ultimate Spider-Man #1-39 and 1/2. It retells Spider-Man's origin and includes some of the best villains to ever appear in comics, including Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, and my personal favorite, Venom. The Green Goblin is i bit different in this series because he doesn't ride around on a glider, but looks more like a bald Hulk with horns and a purple robe. I especially love the art in this series. It has a new art look, different from "The Amazing Spider-Man". It also has a different layout, to fit in today's comic book style. I highly recommend this series for any Spider-Man fan!

Great collection
This is a great intro to Spider-Man comics in the modern age. Spider-Man has always been one of my favorite heroes and I finally decided to check out his Ultimate Universe incarnation. It is the same basic origin you know and love, but with some good changes to make him fit as a current day teen, such as being a web designer for the newspaper instead of a photographer.Overall, great story - great art - great package - a must buy for the spider-fan

Truly The ULTIMATE Spider-Man!
I have never written an Amazon review before, but this was SO GOOD that I just had to! From the first few pages you get what direction this book is going. The tone is very grounded, the dialogue is realistic, the characters are truly understandable, etc. This book is actually more about the drama in Peter Parker's life than his adventures as Spider-Man, and that's a good thing. The build-up to uncle Ben's death is slow and you really come to like him, which makes his death that much more painful. Oh, and did I mention there is not a dull moment in this book?! Whether you're an older comic reader who has witnessed all 700 issues of the Amazing Spider-Man, or just starting out with comics, I would DEFINITELY recommend this to you. The only downside is that there is no table of contents, but that is a minor issue. I would also not recommend buying this for children 12 and under unless they are mature for their age. The story can get really dark, violent, and complicated.

Best Spidey Comics Since Lee/Ditko/Romita
Besides the legendary 110-issue run by Stan Lee, this has got to be the best collection of Spider-Man stories ever written. I pretty much have a PhD in Spider-Manology and have read the best of the best: Gerry Conway, Roger Stern, Len Wein, Marv Wolfman, Tom DeFalco, David Michelinie, you name it. I would have to say this is my favorite run of Spider-Man after the Lee/Ditko/Romita early days. This series was partly responsible for getting me back into comics. It hasn't gone on the way I would have liked; in fact I quit reading after they (SUPER WELL-KNOWN SPOILER ALERT!) killed off Peter for the politically correct Miles Morales but the first 160 issues of this series is still pure comic gold. I just wish Marvel would release the rest of it in omnibus.

Reading this with my 5 year old son.
I'm reading The Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1 with my 5 year old son. I've already read all of the individual issues, but I wanted something that would hold up well when reading to him, so i sprung for the hardcover. Every once in a while i have to censor something as i'm reading because this wasn't meant for 5 year old kids, but all in all it's not that bad. I love how the pages are oversized so it's easier for him to see the pictures while i'm reading the words. He's already been able to read a few small words here and there as i point them out and say "okay, what does this say?". It keeps him interested while learning how to read :)

EPIC Spiderman!
A fantastic collection of Ultimate Spiderman, collects the first 40 comics of the series in one hard back book. You don't get all the additional extras like you do in the back of each volume of this series but you do get the entire story up to number 40 uninterrupted with awesome graphics and storyline.

Great introduction
The Ultimate version of Spider-Man is very well done. The art is great. Most of the characters are pretty well done - Peter and MJ's relationship in particular is well written and believable. Opinions on the more wild Gwen Stacy will vary. The first few issues will seem a bit dull since they retread the same origin story we've seen in multiple comics, movies, TV series and so on over the years with only minor variations. Once you get past that, the series starts to develop its own voice and its own take on the character.I'd recommend this to fans of Spidey, and to new comic readers in general who don't want to parse 50 years of continuity.
