Great for building up to chapter books
These helped my 1st grader build up to being confident tackling chapter books. The pink set have a sentence per page for 47 pages. The light green have two per page for 47 pages. And the red books are beginner "chapter" books with about 4 sentences per page, 4-5 chapters across 47 pages. All the books have a last 48th page with info about where the story came from, because they are adaptations of classic fairy tales and myths.

Great set of books for young readers
Awesome usborne books at bargain price. I love all the books in the library. The set is mostly fairytales and wholesome children's stories.

This is my 5 years old boy's favorite set! He live reading the books
This is my 5 years old boy's favorite set! He live reading the books. The illustration is so colorful and words are large in size that is easy enough for kids to read. My boys read 8 books the first day of receiving the books (he never read that much in a day) and he read them again and again! Highly recommend! (I have recommend it for two of my friends already and their boys like it too!)

Great Variety of books!
My son read through all 50 Usborne My First Reading Library and really enjoyed them so when I saw this I knew we needed to get this one for him too. I was very please with the Variety of books this set included. The books are similar quality of the other set we had so no surprises there. They are typical Usborne paperback quality. The only reason I gave this a 4 star review is because the cardboard library case that they came in was not great quality. It was not well put together and thin and almost falling apart as soon as I unwrapped them and removed it from the shipping box. Before I put it on my bookshelf I made sure I reinforced all the edges of the cardboard bookshelf/case with packing tape and it seems to be holding up better. All in All I think this is a great purchase and value for 50 readers.

Great variety
Good variety of subjects. From girls to boys, from 1st grade(pink) larger/fewer words per page, to 2nd grade(teal), up to begining 3rd grade(red) small chapers. Only downfall is the thin cardboard case the books come in fits very tightly to the books, barely any wiggle room.. This makes it difficult for kids(even adults) to get books out, then getting them back in without damaging the books. Also the case we received was already falling apart when we got it.. So plan a spot on a bookshelf for them!

My daughter loves this collection
My 5 1/2 years old daughter loves reading this collection. They help children to gain confidence in reading. They also provide great stories, short version of classics that motivate children to read and let mommy do some cleaning in the house. My husband also loves to read these stories to our daughter. This is a great collection. I would recommend to everyone.

Great stories for children to start reading, but also for you to read to them just before they do. I bought them for my son and he loves them. We’Ve been reading 2-3 a day ever since he got them. It is great for them to read over and over again their favorite ones and to still have more to discover and feed their curiosity as there are so many.

Bought these books to supplement (and hopefully improve on) the bring-home readers my son was using in class. His reading progress was slow and he wasn't engaging with the school readers. Enter these Usborne readers. What an instant improvement! The stories are pretty classic and nothing particularly epic, but there are some 'smarts' behind this collection. Firstly, all the books are roughly the same length - 46-48 pages in total. Next, each page is a full picture with two to three lines of text on each. Thirdly, it repeats some of the key words over again by reconstructing sentences in different ways to not make it obvious that it is reinforcing new words. And finally, it only uses a few of the more difficult-to-sound-out words per book so as to not overload or overwhelm. We are only now approaching the end of the first of the three sets, but reading these daily has already shown huge improvements in my son's ability and willingness (see confidence) to engage. Once we finish this set, we will look to move on to the next!

The Usborne My Second Reading Library 50-Book Set is an impressive collection designed to nurture young readers’ confidence and stamina. As a parent and former teacher, I purchased this set for my 6-year-old, who’s transitioning from picture books to chapter books. Here’s our experience after two months of use: **PROS:** ✅ **Structured Learning:** The set’s division into Levels 3, 4, and Young Reading Series One ensures gradual progression. The first 14 Level 3 books (e.g., classic tales like *The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs*) are perfect for building fluency, while Levels 4 and Series One introduce longer stories and chapters. ✅ **Engaging Variety:** The mix of folktales, myths, and original stories keeps kids interested. My child loved the humor in *The Dinosaur Who Lost His Roar* and the adventure in *The Minotaur*. ✅ **Boosts Independence:** The clear text, short paragraphs, and occasional illustrations empower early readers to tackle books solo. My child’s confidence skyrocketed! ✅ **Great Value:** 50 books for this price is a steal compared to buying individually. Perfect for home libraries or classroom use. ✅ **Quality Publishing:** Usborne’s reputation for educational content shines—durable covers, age-appropriate vocabulary, and thoughtful storytelling. **CONS:** ❌ **Inconsistent Illustrations:** While Level 3 books have vibrant pictures, Level 4 and Series One rely more on text. Younger kids might miss the visual engagement. ❌ **Repetitive Themes:** A few stories feel formulaic (e.g., animal-focused tales), which bored my child after a while. ❌ **Delivery Limitations:** The free UK delivery is a perk, but international buyers face high shipping costs (not clearly stated upfront). ❌ **Font Size Variability:** Some books in Series One use smaller text, which can intimidate new readers. ❌ **No Parent/Teacher Guide:** A supplementary tips sheet for guiding reading sessions would have been helpful. **Final Thoughts:** This set is a fantastic investment for parents or educators aiming to foster a love of reading. The structured levels, diverse stories, and Usborne’s trusted quality make it a standout. While the lack of visuals in advanced books and occasional repetitiveness are minor letdowns, the pros far outweigh the cons. My child now proudly declares, “I read a *chapter* book today!” **Recommend For:** Kids aged 5–8 progressing from beginner readers to independent chapter books. Ideal for home use, gifts, or classrooms. Not suited for toddlers or reluctant readers needing heavy illustration support. A 4-star literacy booster!
