Will this work on dark brown

It covers gray, but you cant go from dark to grey, hope this helps

Can you achieve deep brown chocolate or does it just turn pitch black??

It depends on the colour you buy. The Black is pitch black and there is no colour variation. These tend to be really good dyes though so I imagine you would get a chocolate brown if you went for the right shade and depending on your starting hair colour

Will this work on black hair to achieve dark/medium brown hair?

It all depends how long your hair has been black and how many times it has been recoloured because if your hairs been colour black more than once then your going to have pigmentation build up within your hair folicals and that's what makes black harder to recolour if this is the case I suggest you buy a hair stripping kit very easy to use just like colouring kit after using that I would get a red colouring moose for hair you can get it very cheap online then put brown colour on top of moose it will make your brown colour more consistent and gives your hair natural tones throughout your hair. Hope this helps and as you can tell I have done this a few times
