Q: When you out in backpack and it’s not laying flat will things leak into other compartments and will the items shift ?

YES. It sure leaks to other compartments. It is so frustrating. Give yourself a favor and buy the previous version of Bentgo instead.

Q: If I put any hot food inside of it, it would be difficult to open it up?

Actually they are very easy to open. I haven’t done hot items though due that it’s not really insulated for that. At list I think. Also I would not put any liquid in it .
